Trying to find something with a nice and non-religious meaning and a bit different but not too “out there” 😅

Some names I’m liking are:

Ace
Casey
Devin
Emrys
Marley
Sylvan

What do you think of these and any other suggestions?

Emrys is nice the rest are awful , particularly Ace .

TeeBee · 10/08/2023 11:53

Sorry, I don't like any of them but if you do, does it matter what anyone else thinks?

OrangeJ · 10/08/2023 12:02

Not at all @TeeBee ☺️

OP posts:

FoodFann · 10/08/2023 12:13

Ace - no, unless short for something, Acer or Jason?
Casey - ok as a surname
Devin - not one I'm familiar with, like Kevin and Devon mixed up
Emrys - ok but a not much used Welsh name
Marley - ok for a dog
Sylvan - no, too Sylvanian Families.
Darwin - too associated with Darwin Awards

Cinnamonandcoal · 10/08/2023 12:38

To be fair I've given my view but in reality I'd not blink at any of these on kids local to me (inner London). Apart from Ace maybe.

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 10/08/2023 14:16

Ace - do you not like him?

Casey - no, a bit 2000's

Devin - no although I do know a Devon and that suits him. Think Devin would be awkward for anyone else spwlling and also open him up to potential bullying.

Emrys - love. Met an Elias yesterday.

Marley - ok but makes me think of Marley & Me

Sylvan - nice

Darwin - really like actually Wink

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 10/08/2023 14:28

Marley and Casey are ok but not something I would choose, the others are terrible

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 10/08/2023 14:30

I love Emrys. Darwin are ok. I’m really not a fan of Ace or Devin.

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 10/08/2023 14:30

Supposed to say Darwin and Sylvan are ok!

Theoldwoman · 10/08/2023 14:32

Casey is the only one I would use.

Ayrton
Torin
Quade
Wade
Dane
Jacques
Kurt
Kalman
Wyndham
Fox
Uriah
Lincoln
Avery

KayEmAy · 10/08/2023 16:41

Gotta be honest it's refreshing to see a different style here! (I'm a fan btw!)

Personal top 3:

  1. Casey - love this name for a boy, I think it's super underrated and he could even use Ace as a nickname
  2. Ace - love a short cool name! Also LOVE the name Asa
  3. Emrys - love the way it sounds, only goes last because at least in the US he would be spelling it out his whole life

didn't rank the others because I'm biased, Sylvan is the street I grew up on, Devin was a childhood bully and Marley is a ghost lol

Other ideas you may like based on your list:

Flint
(Kaz) Cassian/Cassius
Pax
Jace
Bellamy
Dawson nn Sonny if he likes
Wren
Harley
Penn (on it's own or for Spencer)
Troy
Jesse
Clay
Sterling
Emmett
Perry
Hale
Wynn
Palmer
Kane
Rafa (Raphael/Rafferty)
Madden
Hawthorne nn Huck/Hawk
Baylor
Fitz

Snugglemonkey · 10/08/2023 16:42

I really cannot pick any of them.

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 10/08/2023 16:45

Ace - love a short cool name! Also LOVE the name Asa

Just remembered that's there's an Ace in Prudence by Jilly Cooper.

Carouselfish · 10/08/2023 16:51

I like Devlin for the film Notorious, similar to Devin (prefer Devon for that).
I know an Ace. It's a big name to pull off.
I like the idea of Darwin but contrary to its derivation there's a touch of the country bumpkin idiot about it.

Sylvan is lovely.

How about Drake, Blaise, Loxley, Cary (Grant and Elwes), Erroll, Hart?

salamithumbs · 10/08/2023 16:59

Hmm I would consider them all quite 'out there'! I like Devin the best I think, but would probably go for Devon tbh. Never heard of Emrys but it's ok I suppose, I prefer Elis personally.

I've only ever met girls called Casey so I find it hard to imagine on a boy- I've met one Marley (a girl) but it's a dog's name really to my ear.

Ace sounds ok as a nickname but seems a bit arrogant as a name, since ace means great, so I'd picture someone strutting around thinking they're ace. Also, Ace is the name of the bully in Stand by Me who tries to slit Chris' throat.
Sylvan just reminds me of Sylvanians, sorry!

YukoandHiro · 10/08/2023 17:00

Sylvan is great. I like Emrys. Not keen on the rest.

YukoandHiro · 10/08/2023 17:00

Oh and love Casey too - that was on my list. Didn't spot they in first read.
