Sophie or Alice?

Babyname26 · 03/08/2023 09:19

We can't decide between Sophie or Alice as first name for baby due soon. I think I prefer Sophie, DH prefers Alice. What is putting me off Sophie is that most of the Sophie's I have come across are in their 20s and 30s so would people assume our child is around that age when they hear her name? Does this mean it will date.

Sophie

I like it better and is less used than Alice right now. There are a sea of Alices at the moment. Sophia has been mega popular recently, although tailing off now.

It’s a classic so not dated.

I have a 2 year old Sophie and we met at least three more at baby groups when I was on mat leave! So pretty popular in our area (maybe too many Sophie's!)

Sewingdufus · 03/08/2023 10:00

Alice. Every time. Timeless.

I find Sophie a little wish washy.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 03/08/2023 10:50

They are two of my favourite names, OP. Would have happily used either for my dd if dh had been on board. Sorry, that doesn't help you choose!Grin

Both perfectly fine names.

Alice is one of my favourites. I slightly prefer Sophia over Sophie.

shoopshoopdedoo · 03/08/2023 13:24

Both lovely. Alice is my favourite.

JellyDeels · 03/08/2023 13:33

I much prefer Sophie as I find Alice so, so dull. I do like Alicia though.

PossiblyNotOne · 03/08/2023 13:48

Both are popular. Both my DC have girls with those names in their years at school.

DoraWhoExplores · 03/08/2023 13:49

Alice or Alicia. Both are lovely.

PossiblyNotOne · 03/08/2023 13:52

What will date them is paring them with the obligatory Rose/Grace/May as middle names which have been done to death!!

I love Alicia, pronounced Alice-ee-ah.

PickledScrump · 03/08/2023 21:04

Sophie/sophia/Sofia are still incredibly popular so there will be many. That said Sophie has been steadily declining in popularity so it is at risk of feeling a bit dated in the future

Alice is a timeless classic. It’s fairly common but I don’t know of any duplicates in classes.

salamithumbs · 03/08/2023 21:57

I much prefer Sophie! Alice sounds quite prim to me, maybe because of Alice in Wonderland

Coronationstation · 03/08/2023 22:03

Alice! my favourite name ever but all
the ones I’ve ever known have completely bonkers (in a good way!).
sophie is really over used

caringcarer · 03/08/2023 22:15

I like Sophie and Alice but I think Sofia is used by more people now than Sophie. Also Sophie Alice goes well together so first name and middle name.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 03/08/2023 22:22

Sophie Alice. Beautiful 😍

Dombasle · 03/08/2023 22:23

Sophie.

OopsieeDaisy · 03/08/2023 22:33

I love Sophie so prefer that of the two but Alice is pretty as well. Agree with pps that Sophie Alice is a lovely name.

Foreverdancing · 03/08/2023 22:52

Love them both but I hear Sophie a lot more so I would choose Alice, it’s such a pretty name and is timeless and elegant x

TokyoSushi · 03/08/2023 23:09

Sophie is a fabulous name 😉

Sophie Alice would be lovely.

ellenpartridge · 03/08/2023 23:27

Love them both. Don't think Sophie is dated. There are loads of them in my kids' primary school, at least one in every year. Also know some baby and toddler Sophies. Don't think people would assume 20-30 years old at all.

herbygarden · 03/08/2023 23:42

Sophie

midsomermurderess · 03/08/2023 23:53

Alice. It is, as others have said, timeless.

Both Alice and Sophie are timeless and lovely.
They are never unfashionable.
Which ever you choose will be right.

Do you like Cedelle, Alison, Josephine or Sally?
