Thoughts on Louis as a brother for Ben(jamin)?
Other thoughts are Ezra but worried a bit too trendy...

Depends on how you'd pronounce it:
Lew-ee
Loo-we
Loo-iss
Lew-iss
To name but four.

nocoolnamesleft · 30/07/2023 23:46

First thought is "which pronunciation?" so may be problematic.

Alloveragain3 · 30/07/2023 23:57

I'd always say "Loo-ee' for Louis and 'Loo-is' for Lewis.

I love Louis but not a fan of Lewis as it makes me think of a quiet man in a suit at a computer.

Lou-ee pronunciation

Love it. Ezra is also nice but is everywhere at the moment

MissedItByThisMuch · 31/07/2023 00:07

Love it. If you’re in the UK (and Australia where I am) everyone says Lew-ee don’t they? Lew-is is how American’s pronounce it? And I don’t understand the distinction pp was making between Lew- and Loo- pronunciation-wise. Surely there are two potential pronunciations, not 4??

arlequin · 31/07/2023 00:15

I have heard the odd Lou-iss pronunciation but don't think that would be a huge issue.
Lyoo-iss or similar I've never heard!

I always used to assume it was Louee. But I've had several parents be extremely pissed off as they affrontedly told me it was Looiss.

DuchessOfSausage · 31/07/2023 08:16

Louis is usually pronounces as Louie.
Not keen on Ezra.

arlequin · 31/07/2023 08:36

I'm a teacher and all the ones I teach are Lou-ee 😊

I really like it and would always pronounce it as Loo-ee

Lew as in Hew or Pew
Loo as in Hoop or Coop

Orangepeg · 31/07/2023 21:03

I love it, I’ve always thought it’s such a handsome sounding name. I’m sure most people know how to pronounce it.

But no one says Lyew-ee?

Love it, even though it’s our cat’s name.

Amniceandgenuine · 31/07/2023 22:48

Lois is a great name.

popopop · 31/07/2023 22:48

Love it! Although I am a tad biased ;)

KnickerlessParsons · 31/07/2023 23:20

But no one says Lyew-ee?

I can't even begin to imagine how "Lyew" might be pronounced.

Well... like hew/pew a Y sound in the middle. Isn't that what you were saying before?
lju:i in IPA?
I just have never heard that pronunciation.

Louis is a lovely name.

user1492757084 · 01/08/2023 03:35

Louis is perfect and the correct pronunciation is further cemented
with Prince Louis.

KnickerlessParsons · 01/08/2023 07:31

No Y in pew and hew (or Louis, however you pronounce it)

Hew is a different sound than hyew would be, if it were an actual word.

LadyWithLapdog · 01/08/2023 07:35

Gorgeous name

Not in my opinion experience. My Loo-ee is always called Lewis in the UK

Chevrotains · 01/08/2023 07:43

I like Louis, wouldn't say it goes with Benjamin though, but that hardly matters
