Short, simple boys names

Mummy08m · 24/07/2023 11:45

We don't know yet if its a boy or a girl! But thinking about names anyway. We agree on lots of girls names but can't find any boys names for the shortlist.

Dh likes short, simple boys names like were common for our generation. Eg Adam, Ben, Chris, David, James, John, Rob, Tom etc.

I like most of the above list too except we have close friends and family with these names so they're out! Or worse, names of my ex-boyfriends are included in the above.

Help me think of more names in this sort of style? Generally one or two syllables, simple names, suitable for all walks of life, you know what I mean. Many thanks

I eliminated Gary and Brian from my list for the same reason although I’m sure they’re both well overdue a come back

I love these, thanks mumsnet! My favourites so far are Saul, Paul, Marcus, Max, Frank, Luke. Lots more have been listed that I like but we can't have because, again, close family or friends (basically all the men we know are listed in this thread lol).

I like names like Rex and Otto (suggested above) but I already know that DH would find them too unusual (eye roll). Also there's a dishy actor that I like called Otto and dh knows this so I never get away with that lol

The name that jumped out at me was Marcus and I lol be it's shortened name, Marc (with a c). It's such a strong, masculine and classic name which I don't think dates

I'm not keen on shortened versions of longer names.

We have neighbours who have four sons all named with more or less traditional abbreviations Lex, Sam, Tom and Rik. It’s really worked for them

I am biased because my DS is Max npw 23yo

Suited him as a baby , a little boy , a teenager and now a fully grown bloke .
It'll suit him as a 40yo , 50 yo right thrugh till he's 100 !

He is Max on his birth certificate .
He gets called Maximillion if he's ignoring me , Maxwell or "M" (bit James Bond that)
But never ever Maxie . Wink

Ah that's nice, yeah I love a timeless, ageless, all walks of life name! Max is lovely.

I've just found out that dc is probably a boy (had an unplanned scan as part of an emergency checkup and the doctor and I thought we saw the genitals...!)

So I'm re-perusing this thread! Thank you all again for your suggestions :)
