Hi all. Partner and I are stuck on these 3 names for our baby girl, which is your favourite? Surname is 3 syllabus.

Don't like Thea or Imogen. Charlotte is nice.

Bananas1350 · 17/07/2023 11:28

deoends If u intend to shorten. Thea cannot really be shortened. Imogen will be immi ( spelling ). And I know a Charlotte and everyone calls her CC. So that’s something to think about. Personally. Not a fan of Thea.

NaughtPoppy · 17/07/2023 11:31

I love Thea, less common than the other two.

Swearwolf · 17/07/2023 11:35

Thea is the nicest by a long way! Imogen is lovely but there are so many of them, and I'm not a fan of Charlotte.

Topazbutterfly · 17/07/2023 11:35

I'm not keen on Imogen, no particular reason, just personal taste but I really like both Thea and Charlotte, they're lovely names.

cptartapp · 17/07/2023 11:38

Charlotte. But no silly nn ie Lottie.

24Dogcuddler · 17/07/2023 11:38

Love the name Thea.
Went to school with a lovely girl called Thea in the late 70s! Never come across anyone named this since despite teaching for 35 years.

samestyle · 17/07/2023 11:39

Imogen

StillWantingADog · 17/07/2023 11:42

I think you have good taste, I like all three. Charlotte is the most classic and timeless but the most common too.
I don’t know any Imogens or Theas (north west).

the only thing about Thea is it sounds like it should be short for Theadora. That said the Theadora I know goes by Dora (which I also like).

uncertainalice · 17/07/2023 11:44

Imogen is lovely and immi will be a very cool nickname when she's in her teens. I also love its meaning...and I wouldn't say it's common at all, in 2021 it was given to only 1 in nearly 11,000 girls! Thea is nice too, but will it be pronounced Theea or Theya, or is she always going to have to put up with it being a mix of the two?

ArbitraryHaddock · 17/07/2023 11:51

Thea. Like Imogen but hate Immi as a shortening. And Charlotte is just meh, a bit safe.

KittyMcKitty · 17/07/2023 11:53

Every Imogen I’ve ever met (child or adult) has been shortened to Imo never Immy.

RainRains · 17/07/2023 11:57

Imogen is lovely. Doesn’t necessarily have to be shortened.

Cyclingforcake · 17/07/2023 12:17

These were all on my list. We went with Imogen because it sounded best with our surname. She is never known as Immy despite what a PP suggested.

Lucylou8 · 17/07/2023 12:45

Thanks all. I feel like Charlotte is the safest option for her but I do love Thea - it would be pronounced Theea, I didn’t realise that there was an alternative pronunciation.

We looked at Dorothea with Thea as a shortening (had family significance as well), and also Imogen - then had two boys! Charlotte is possibly a bit boring?

Sandysandwich · 17/07/2023 13:33

I love Charlotte and Imogen, I know two Imogens and one is Imi and the other Genie which I like.
Thea gets really mispronounced where I live as everyone drops the Th, they all become Fe-ah or Fear and it sounds awful

MrsWidgerysLodger · 17/07/2023 13:35

I love Thea. It was on our shortlist for DD.

VeryQuaintIrene · 17/07/2023 13:42

Thea 100%

kcy · 17/07/2023 15:54

Don’t like imogen much at all, not a fan of the immy nickname. Thea, just seems a bit bland. Love Charlotte though x

bobby81 · 17/07/2023 16:12

I like them all (sorry I'm no help!) x

LadyKenya · 17/07/2023 16:15

Thea is a beautiful name. I am surprised that it is not more commonly used.

mogtheforg3tfulcat · 17/07/2023 16:17

I have a Thea and obviously I really love the name, but I would agree with pp that kids find it hard to pronounce. DD would introduce herself as 'Sia' when she was learning to talk and most of her friends say 'fea'. Luckily as we're in Scotland and pronounce our R's it doesn't sound like 'fear' but it would in a different accent. It doesn't really bother me (or her) but something to think about!

ButterflyBitch · 17/07/2023 16:18

Thea. There are Imogen’s everywhere and Charlotte is a bit dull to me.

KayEmAy · 17/07/2023 16:19

Team Thea all day!
