Any opinions on Margot or Nancy? Due in a few days 😅.

Also can't decide on a boy name AT ALL.....

Love Nancy! Margot as a middle name?

PyjamasToMyLeft · 13/07/2023 16:23

Nancy!

Boy suggestions - Barnaby, Gideon, Jerome (Jem), Kit, Marcus.

Neekoh · 13/07/2023 16:24

Margot. Love it.

TropicalTrama · 13/07/2023 16:27

Both were on my girl’s list. A boy would have been Louis.

anormalperson · 13/07/2023 16:27

Margot

HuntingoftheSnark · 13/07/2023 16:27

Nancy.

Love Gideon as suggested by a PP. Also Rufus, Byron, Jacob, Oscar.

MouseSculptureMadeOfOldHairbrushFluff · 13/07/2023 16:28

Nancy.

Margots are 20 a penny at the moment.

HAVEnotOF · 13/07/2023 16:33

Like them both, but Margots are everywhere rn.

Margaux is a nicer spelling imo.

marshmallowfinder · 13/07/2023 16:39

Nancy. Margot is hideous and looks like maggot.

xxalhxx · 13/07/2023 16:43

Don't like either of them

Cornettoninja · 13/07/2023 16:43

Nancy, it’s a great name!

I really like Rupert, Arthur and Gabriel for boys but I think all have risen in popularity recently if that bothers you.

Nellie90 · 13/07/2023 16:49

Thanks for the quick replies! I do worry Margot seems to have become very popular.

We were set on the name Laurie for a boy but now I'm not sure. I worry people won't pronounce/ spell it correctly and I don't like Laurence/Lawrence as a full name.

Contenders are: Arthur, Samuel, Arlo, Dylan and Sid.

Margaux is a wine, as Hemingway knew. Like naming your daughter Chardonnay!

Margot is nice but I adore Nancy!

continentallentil · 13/07/2023 17:02

Nancy

They are both great - but Margot so popular just now.

I really like Laurence nn Laurie
like Sidney nn Sid
wouldn’t use either nn as a full name

Samuel is solid but a wee bit dull. I love Arthur but done to death, Arlo is a bit faddy and very overdone lately. Not keen on Dylan for some reason.

Stanley
Ernest nn Ernie
Corin
Kester
Zachary nn Zach
Patrick
Barnaby nn Barney might be others

KirstenBlest · 13/07/2023 17:19

Nancy. Don't like Margot.

nancy75 · 13/07/2023 17:23

Nancy is my real name & it’s definitely become more popular in recent years (I’m used to being the only Nancy, when I’m hearing little Nancy being told off in the supermarket I think mum is shouting at me!)

ConsistentlyPeeved · 13/07/2023 19:55

I really like both! I also love the Welsh spelling of Nancy- Nansi

PickledScrump · 13/07/2023 20:31

Nancy, Margot just looks and sounds so ugly

Daffodilwoman · 13/07/2023 20:44

I must be the only one not to like Nancy. I prefer Margot.
I like Laurie, I would go with Laurence.
What’s difficult about the pronunciation of Laurie? It seems straightforward to me.

Nellie90 · 13/07/2023 21:24

@Daffodilwoman the American pronunciation is more "law-ree" and the English "Lorry."

@nancy75 what a great name! It must be funny for you hearing it on small people now.

@ConsistentlyPeeved I am actually Welsh and like the spelling too but live in England so Nancy might be an easier spelling but thank you for the suggestion 😊.

I think Nancy sort of grows on you. I know a few very old ones who are really Ann. The granny names came round again, and I find myself liking ones like Nancy and Bessie, when 30yrs ago I'd have thought them a bit old-fashioned.

shoopshoopdedoo · 13/07/2023 22:18

I’m not keen on Margot, but Nancy is growing on me after reading this thread!

I like Laurie and Samuel from your boy names, and Sid (but not with Nancy)…

Locum · 13/07/2023 22:28

Both very pretty, I always loved Margot but have a feeling they will be a surge this year after the barbie movie!

Nellie90 · 14/07/2023 16:26

I think I'm more team Nancy!

It's nice to hear Laurie gets a nice reception. I just have a name people struggle to spell so worry the same for the baby. We shall see what it is soon! 😊
