The only name we've whittled down that we both love for our little one due very soon. Just looking for some thoughts?

I really like Kit, it was on my list

Fuckingfuckssake · 07/07/2023 21:16

I absolutely love it, couldn't use it due to our surname though.

HuntingoftheSnark · 07/07/2023 21:20

Lovely name.

@Fuckingfuckssake is it Catt?

Fuckingfuckssake · 07/07/2023 21:21

Nearasdammit 🤣

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 07/07/2023 21:23

For boy or girl? Cute and friendly unisex sounding. I love it as a nn/diminutive, but can't imagine it as a formal name for some reason (even though loads of people seem to use it as one now). I think I'd like it better for a girl therefore since there are lots more longer name options, where as the longer versions seem a bit more limited for a boy.

cpphelp · 07/07/2023 21:27

I like it. I knew a bloke in our twenties called Kit, he was cool and gorgeous 😍

Beenhereforever1978 · 07/07/2023 21:28

Lovely. Go for it.

DelurkingAJ · 07/07/2023 21:29

I’m a big fan.

BunnyBettChetwynd · 07/07/2023 21:30

I love it.

ODFOx · 07/07/2023 21:35

Short for Christopher? Great.
For a girl; short fir Katherine? Lovely

As a half arsed name all on it's own ???
Not so much.

Would you call a son Pip instead of Philip, or Pat instead of Patrick?? It would be bonkers. So why are people doing it with Kit? It's a great name but it is definitely a diminutive.

It's like people calling their baby Bear when it's a nickname for Edward. Weird.

Use the full name so the child can choose for themselves as they grow to move away from the nickname if they want to.

IhearyouClemFandango · 07/07/2023 21:37

Lovely. Nearly went for Christopher nn Kit after a chap I knew.

arlequin · 07/07/2023 21:38

I think it's mumsnet's favourite name!

windowof · 07/07/2023 21:40

@ODFOx only heard Bear as a nickname for Arthur rather than Edward. Edward is generally more Teddy.
I wouldn't personally use the name Kit for a child as it's a bit too short in my head but having said that it's no shorter than Amy or Eva which plenty women are called.
I think it's the single syllable maybe.
But OP if you love it then go for it. It's a boy name really rather than a girl name but either way this is your baby so your call.
Congratulations!

Lagershandy · 07/07/2023 21:48

Our DS Christopher is in his 30s now, and I do regret not using Kit as his name from the start, I think it is so cool!

I know one who's an Edward and know of Bear Grylls, who's also an Edward.
Never known one who was actually an Arthur! Live and learn a new thing every day 😀!

DisforDarkChocolate · 07/07/2023 22:03

I love it too. Didn't go with my surname. Still a bit sad because it's such a great name.

Babamam · 07/07/2023 22:04

@DisforDarkChocolate it really clashes with our surname but I think it gives it pazazz/a star quality to it 😆

Thanks all so far, I think it'll be the one.

I love it, I knew a cool Kit as a teenager

I agree better as a nickname for Christopher though

ThePoshUns · 07/07/2023 22:38

Love it

BowiesJumper · 07/07/2023 22:39

There are 3 kits in my son’s year at school (7yrs old). I really like it.

KayEmAy · 08/07/2023 00:19

I freaking love this name!

Thank you to the UK for giving us many actors named Kit so I could hear it and fall in love with it:)

I love it as a stand alone name as well. Out of curiosity is it mostly a nickname or is it a stand alone name where you all live?

DramaAlpaca · 08/07/2023 01:52

Love it, but I'd personally put Christopher on the bc.

KirstenBlest · 08/07/2023 10:22

@HuntingoftheSnark , it could be King, Kearney, Kitchin, Kielty, Catton, Carter, Crapper etc

KirstenBlest · 08/07/2023 10:26

or Bagley or Bagshaw Smile

Newusernameaug · 08/07/2023 10:27

Love it! I know a little lot of 7 years old and he’s awesome!
expect the nickname Kit Kat within hours of them being born - but everyone loves Kit Kats 😍😂
