Am I missing anything with this name?

Gabriel William Fox

With DS1 we had a shortlist and picked after he’d arrived. This time round we theoretically have the same but Gabriel (probably known as Gabe) is so far ahead of the others that it seems a forgone conclusion that we’ll go for it. I think this is leading me to overthink. Have I missed any weird problems with initials or sounds like (DS1 was nearly Isaac Fox and it wasn’t until we revisited it with DS2 that I realised it actually sounds quite close to ‘I suck cocks’ 😬)?

Gabriel Fox sounds gorgeous. However if I was over thinking things Id worry about Gay Cox.
or even Gay Willy Cox. However who’d know his middle name. I assume he’ll just be Gabriel day to day.
I think it’ll be fine. The surname isn’t actually Cox, is it.

Anything that shortens to Gay is a bit of a risk, surely? Probably not quite so much nowadays!

I think it sounds fine. I have never heard of a Gabriel being shortened to “gay”. He will be Gabriel or Gabe or maybe even Gabby in the toddler years.
As a teenager his mates might call him “Foxy” because teen boys seem to go through a surname phase. As nickname’s go Foxy is pretty cool.

It's absolutely fine.

Gabe Fox sounds too close to Gay Fucks or Gay Cox to me....

Sorry, it's a lovely name in so many ways, but kids (and adults) can be areseholes and you may be setting your kid up for a lifetime of teasing here...

I too would be worried about the potential for kids to change Gabe to ‘gay’ - it wouldn’t bother me with a different middle or surname, but William can shorten to Willy and fox does rhyme with cocks, like a PP said! Kids are horrible!

Isaac Cox is what Sarah Cox the DJ called her son 😮.
Gabriel can be shortened to Gay, (Gay Byrne famous Irish TV presenter).

If you are worried about I suck cocks then gay fucks has to be a worry. I wouldn’t have ever thought of the I suck cocks one, but gay entered my head straight away.

😫😫😫😫😫😫

I had it on the list for DS1 but didn’t choose it as I worried about the ‘gay’ thing but everyone told me I was wrong and it’s not a thing.

Even on here I’ve had some nasty replies on other threads saying that’s I must be a homophobe.

I thought I’d just seen if I was overthinking but you’ve all made me think that it might well cause problems.

Back to the drawing board I guess….

I wouldn’t think of gay as a nn for Gabriel, but know it’s been mentioned, Gay Willy stands out, although you don’t hear William being shortened to Willy so much nowadays.

Shame, because Gabriel Fox sounds great.

We’re not completely set on William as a middle name, it was just the front runner as a family name.

What about Ezra? Or Ethan?

Been chatting about names this afternoon and we both quite like these.

Ha what a bunch of homophobic sad acts you are. You only see being called ‘gay’ as a bad thing if you see being gay as a bad thing. I’d rather hope you were bringing up your kids to shrug off any such links or even to say ‘so what if I am?’

Gabriel is a beautiful name and I wouldn’t let the lowest common denominator put you off.

if you choose names acceptable to the moronic masses your kid will be the 8th in the class with the same name and end up being bullied for something else anyway - if a kid wants to be unkind they’ll find a reason, it’s up to us to teach our kids that bullying is never about them but abut the bully.

I think it's a great name, @CultureAlienationBoredomandDespair - strong and distinctive, and with a good cadence. I didn't identify any problem with it before reading the thread, although I suppose you could contort it into 'Gay' if you try hard enough. I'm not sure our children will be as hung up on such things as their parents/grandparents- already we see attitudes relaxed hugely since I was young. If you are really worried could you name him William Gabriel instead? Or do you have a maiden name you could add as a third given name to put more distance between Gabe and Fox?

It's a great name and I can't understand how you've made the leap from Gabriel Fox to gay cox?!

If you like the name, use it. Most people won't make that leap at all!

I really like Gabriel.
Dh vetoed it due to the risk of being called Gay. That was a few years ago and I suspect tines will be different now.
