Hi mummys!!
currently expecting my second baby girl and my husband and I really like the name Sara but pronounced like Zara instead, however we have no idea how to make this clear to people as I feel like people will just automatically say Sarah:(
(the reason we’re going with the S spelling as appose the the original Z spelling is because all of our other children’s names start with S!!)

thanks for all your help x

Just start it with a Z or it will be confusing forever. The baby is an extension or accessory of her sister so it’s irrelevant that her name starts with a S. Zara spelt with a S is Sara

Valour · 15/06/2023 22:04

Eh? That's like calling your baby Jon and expecting everyone to know that they should call him Ron.

Sara is a lovely name though.

MrsBigTed · 15/06/2023 22:05

I don't think you can. People will read what they see. You'll be setting the poor girl up for a life of correcting people.

RiaOverTheRainbow · 15/06/2023 22:08

Do you mean rhyming with Zara or literally pronounced "Zara"? If the first, it's uncommon but not unknown so it should be fine after she's introduced. If the second, that's as daft as "Sara, pronounced Emily".

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 15/06/2023 22:09

Yep. If you want it pronounced Zara, spell it Zara, or your lo faces a lifetime of explanation. It's not logical. Think out of the box and start her name with a different letter. If not, call her Sara, pronounced Sara.

BasiliskStare · 15/06/2023 22:09

I think Sara to rhyme with Zara is not that unusual . It may take a few times to remind people but I would just do it if you want the S . `that said I would not be fussed about all the DCs having a name beginning with the same letter.

So your choice but I think Sara is lovely name.

Lemonaida · 15/06/2023 22:09

I don't think this is a good idea, poor kid will forever be correcting people. I'd hate it.

TeamSleep · 15/06/2023 22:10

I’m thinking you mean you want it pronounced Sara to rhyme with Zara. I think that’s fine. It’s a lovely name and without the ‘h’ at the end I think it will be mostly pronounced the way you want it to be.

KirstenBlest · 15/06/2023 22:11

I dread to imagine what all your other children are called. Soe, Sac, Sayn, Sander...?

Lemonaida · 15/06/2023 22:12

Oh just reread it following last PP and think I see what you mean now. You want it pronounced Sara (with an S) not Sarah? Not with a Z?
If I saw this written down I'd pronounce it Sara not Sarah. If that's the case then I think it's totally fine.

RhosynBach · 15/06/2023 22:13

As others have said Sara to rhyme with Zara makes sense. It’s a popular name where I live and so I would automatically pronounce it to rhyme with Zara and not Sarah as that’s how it’s pronounced round me. If you want to actually pronounce the z then you need to call her Zara

NerdyBird · 15/06/2023 22:17

To me, Sara spelled that way is pronounced to rhyme with Zara. I know some American people pronounce it like Sarah though.

UsingChangeofName · 15/06/2023 22:18

Assuming you mean to rhyme with Zara, then that is how I would read 'Sara'.
If it has an 'h' on the end, then it becomes Sarah.

If you really mean you want her called Zara, then you are being ridiculous. If you want her to be called Zara, then - here's an idea - call her Zara.

My other children have lovely names actually.
I have two little boys called Spencer and Scott and a little called Stella.

Thank you for your comment though you seem lovely :)

If you mean to rhyme with Zara then Sara is fine, if you mean literally pronounced as Zara then it’s ridiculous to spell it as Sara. You’d be setting her up for a life of correcting people and explaining why her parents gave her a silly pronunciation for a simple name

KirstenBlest · 15/06/2023 22:35

It was meant as a joke. Those are nice names.

Sara is nice too.

If you want an S name that starts with a Z sound, there's Sabine.

007DoubleOSeven · 15/06/2023 22:45

Sara pronounced with an S is a lovely name

Don't be weird and pronounce with a Z

JaneJeffer · 15/06/2023 22:51

I have two little boys called Spencer and Scott and a little called Stella.
Do you pronounce them Zpencer, Zcott and Ztella?

I'm a Sara (that rhymes with Zara) and love my name....sometimes called Sarah but I always correct people.

oviraptor21 · 15/06/2023 22:55

Sara is lovely but for the love of.God, don't pronounce it as Sarah or Zara.

Betsyboo2022 · 15/06/2023 22:56

Just to clear some things up :)

I should’ve made it clear that I want Sara to rhyme with Zara. I had no intention of the Z sound being used I’m aware now that this isn’t obvious so apologies.
