Evangelia - nn help!

Goldblend · 09/06/2023 12:43

Our DD will be named Evangelia for family reasons. I know it’s a long , non British name and so I need help!

I want a nice nn that could work with Evangelia as a full name but not an Eve, Evie, Eva etc. as they are all so overused.

I am also not a fan of Angie, Angela, Angelina, Lina, Lia!

Would Lily work?

The letter of Evangelia I like are E-A-N-L-I !

I need some inspiration please!

What about Elani / Elane?

TheConnoisseurOfDestruction · 09/06/2023 12:46

Jelly

DuchessOfSausage · 09/06/2023 12:48

Are you saying it as Ev-an-gel-EE-ah, g like in golf?

ImpromptuGathering · 09/06/2023 12:48

Jelli or Jellie? Quite cute really...

CoffeeBeansGalore · 09/06/2023 12:58

Ellie
Gina
Nellie
Genie

Evan

Goldblend · 09/06/2023 14:03

@DuchessOfSausage Yes, that’s the correct pronunciation, g as golf.

Although, I think in the UK people would naturally pronounce it with a g as jelly.

I think they might say Evan Jeelya.
It's nice said properly

ThomasinaLivesHere · 09/06/2023 14:17

Isn’t Lily as popular as Eve names? I don’t naturally see Lily but if you introduce her as Lily then people will know her as that.

Goldblend · 09/06/2023 14:22

I think I am in between Lina or Lily. Lily is quite popular , I agree. Although all the Eves together are more than the Lilys.

Ellie I can’t, is very similar to my name.

Jelly- Jellie is a no, haha!

Evan I think is a boys name?

I wouldn't do Lily it's just as popular and a completely separate name.

I would instead however make peace with the fact she will inevitably become Eve or Evie especially when she gets to nursery and school and her name is very likely to mispronounced with a g like in Jelly which will probably drive her and you bonkers.

Vanya
Anna
Anne
Annie

DuchessOfSausage · 09/06/2023 14:38

Vanna or Geli
I'd say Evi (Evvy) but it will be said as Evie

Lily doesn't follow from Evangelia at all

Goldblend · 09/06/2023 14:41

What about Alina? Does it sound ok? Linked at all with Evangelia?

It's a bit of a stretch. Why can't you choose a name you actually want for your own baby?

DingsBum · 09/06/2023 14:49

If you really have to use the name despite clearly not liking it, I'd suggest Eva (pronounced Evv-a).

She's still going to end up as an Eve or Evie though as it's a very contrived name which makes no real sense.

Is there a reason you can't just pick a new you like, it's obvious you're not really a fan of Evangelia.

SeeingSpots · 09/06/2023 14:50

*name (oh for an edit button)

DuchessOfSausage · 09/06/2023 14:50

Lina and Alina don't sound or look like diminutives of Evangelia at all.
Just call her a name you love and have Evangelia as a middle name.

Isitisit · 09/06/2023 14:51

Evanna

Candymay · 09/06/2023 14:51

Miss Vangie

Goldblend · 09/06/2023 14:55

We “have to” name her Evangelia after a family member and because of “politics” and traditions that can be unfollowed only just because we are not fans of a name! Unfortunately!

OP posts:
annawc · 09/06/2023 14:56

Maybe you'll like Ena (long e sound, as in eat)?

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 09/06/2023 14:57

Sorry OP but if you’re trying to contrive a whole new name then you really need to rethink. It’s unusual but not unheard of to go by a middle name. Can you name her Evangelia Yourchoice and use the latter day-to-day?
