Really liking the name Pascal. Is that mental hormones?
I grew up in Ireland and I'm sure I heard it somewhere maybe..
is it a nice name or am I mad to even consider?

I feel we must live or occupy the same geographical or social sphere at some point or other @EmptyBedBlues

I thought exactly of McCarthy when Roy says Flor / Florrie!

Feeling nicely sentimental now!

A sphere where real men called Flor, Connie and Pascal are forever fattening bullocks or getting in the third cut of silage, and and sports commentary features statements like ‘There won’t be a cow milked in the county tonight!’? 😀

(God, I wonder if we know one another…)

Pascal, I like it's sound and meaning which ever the spelling.

Pascale is a sweet girls' name.
Easter related.

RoseRobot · 29/05/2023 09:09

I think of it as French. There were male Pascals and female Pascales on our school French exchanges in 1980s. Always liked the name.

Longdarkcloud · 29/05/2023 12:10

I love it. Had heard of it but met my first Pascal a few years back. Very nice chap with Irish ancestry. I wouldn’t hesitate to use it if I had a son. Not too popular but not too out there.

UrsulaBelle · 30/05/2023 10:41

I had an Irish boyfriend in the 1980s who had brothers called Desmond, Simon and Paschal, pronounced PAScul. He’d be 55 by now. The parents were older, married in their 30s with 8 children and Paschal was the baby. So a bit old fashioned even then.

AuxArmesCitoyens · 01/06/2023 20:22

A French Pascal would be in his fifties. Not on point at all.

I just think of the chameleon from tangled 😂

I was just going to say the same!

peaceinourtime · 05/06/2023 12:31

I know a female Pascale, she is the only person I have heard of with that name. NB her mother is French not that it matters.

I think it’s a nice name but bad timing, since I think right now it will bring Pedro Pascal to mind for most people.

I've never heard of anyone called 'Pedro Pascal'. Resisting the temptation to Google. Who is he?

DontTouchMyMug · 05/06/2023 19:29

He is an actor and quite honestly I don't mind bringing him to mind 😉

clpsmum · 05/06/2023 19:53

I like it

Ah, OK. Now Googled. I never watch stuff like he's been in. Not judging it, but not our type of thing. Except I see he was in an episode of Nurse Jackie, and one of Homeland, so we must have seen him.

Why resist the temptation? I would normally just Google and find out.

He’s a quite famous actor who is having his sort of moment in the sun right now. That’s why it brings him to mind for me, because he’s generally quite well known at the moment. It’s not a bad thing to bring to mind as such, but because it’s such an unusual name and he is popular right now, I think many people would think of him.

I think I must be a bit old for him, as he seems to be in films and TV shows based on video games or comics

I’ve never seen him on anything. I just saw him on social media.

And I saw him many years ago on Buffy but I didn’t remember him 😂 he was killed quickly in one episode and she never mentions him again.

I absolutely love it.
Great name.

mosiacmaker · 06/06/2023 03:00

I work with a lot of Europeans and we have plenty of Pascals in the company! I think it sounds nice but don’t know any of the cultural connotations

sashh · 06/06/2023 03:22

My first thought is a programming language and my second is a unit of pressure.

mathanxiety · 06/06/2023 04:07

There used to be a non prime time DJ on RTE called Pascal Mooney. He had a show featuring a segment called the Lonely Hearts Club. Listeners sent descriptions of their tractors...

It's a nice name but I associate it with rural Ireland in the mid 80s.

@EmptyBedBlues

Hang on - you’re saying you know men called Florence?!

I don't think it's a popular option for boys any more, but there was a head of intelligence in the Cork brigade in the War of Independence who was named Florence (a man).

Hearti · 06/06/2023 04:22

I like pascal and Patrice
