How would you pronounce Bowie? And what middlename would you give her? I've always liked it pronounced bo ee but know the big insinuation is with David Bowie! Not so pretty sounding for a girl lol

I see it as bow-ee (to rhyme with now-ee) even though I know the singer preferred it to rhyme with low-ee.

And yes, definitely think of David Bowie, and I think that's a pretty inescapable association that will last for some time to come

Coronationstation · 26/05/2023 10:53

same @AuntieStella but i think some would would go for bow as in bow tie or hair bow
Bowie Tyler?

CountessBathorysBeautySecrets · 26/05/2023 10:53

Bow to rhyme with low.

Everyone will assume she's named after David Bowie.

Weatherwife · 26/05/2023 11:00

First association for me is David Bowie, second is dogs (I know multiple dogs with this name… named after David Bowie). I would say bow like low but really don’t think it’s a good name for a human child.

PeskyRooks · 26/05/2023 11:02

Everyone will assume you are a David Bowie fan and I would read it as Bow rhyming with now ie.

If you are not a DB fan and wanted Bow (rhyming with low ) ie you might have to think about spelling it Bowey.

lostinfusion · 26/05/2023 11:03

gosh there's a couple of name threads with some right corkers this morning

CurlewKate · 26/05/2023 11:16

Oh, please don't. If you like it change your own name.

But, as market research, Low-ie. Obviously after David.
And boy.

overitunderit · 26/05/2023 11:21

It's not a girls name.

And yeah you will always have the issue with pronounciation.

It's a very self indulgent name to call a child, please don't.

kiggl · 26/05/2023 11:22

love it! I would pronounce to rhyme with go -ee

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 26/05/2023 11:24

Is Bowie even a name? I like beau but would think it's for a boy

PickledScrump · 26/05/2023 11:28

i would say bow as in now, how etc. it’s an ok name for a pet. Not great name for a child, especially not a girl

KirstenBlest · 26/05/2023 12:46

It's the name of a knife. It's bow-y like in bow & arrow. His real surname was Jones.
A lot of people say it to rhyme with Howie.
It's not really suitable as a name for a girl, and the rock star probably won't mean anything to her.

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 26/05/2023 23:20

Completely unsuitable for a girl. OK for a (male) dog though. Please reconsider.

continentallentil · 27/05/2023 14:36

How about Bonnie?

Bowie is nuts.

DustyLee123 · 27/05/2023 14:38

Baw-ee.

Azandme · 27/05/2023 14:40

It's a dog name.

GoodVibesHere · 27/05/2023 14:40

This definately can't be real? It would be like calling a kid Madonna or Beyonce. It's so mean OP don't do it (if this is real).

highlandspooce · 27/05/2023 14:42

Joe nnns

MyTruthIsOut · 27/05/2023 14:44

There is a Bowie in my son’s class. (5 years old).

I actually love the name for a boy, and it always make me smile when I see him in a kiddy football shirt with his name printed across the back of it. It always makes me think of David Bowie!

They pronounce it so that the first syllable rhymes with low.

SugarAndSpike · 27/05/2023 14:49

CountessBathorysBeautySecrets · 26/05/2023 10:53

Bow to rhyme with low.

Everyone will assume she's named after David Bowie.

This.

Think twice.

drpet49 · 27/05/2023 14:51

God awful name.

Shhhquirrel · 27/05/2023 14:52

No no no trying too hard, it’s awful.

maddiemookins16mum · 27/05/2023 20:47

blahblahblah1654 · 27/05/2023 20:51

SoShallINever · 28/05/2023 23:31
