How would you pronounce Bowie? And what middlename would you give her? I've always liked it pronounced bo ee but know the big insinuation is with David Bowie! Not so pretty sounding for a girl lol

I'd pronounce it as Bowie to rhyme with cow-ee.
It struck me as a boy name rather than girl though and have to agree with others that it's not a great first name either way

Not the name to give a girl.

I love his music but just no.

Absolutely this, I hate the way he's still held up as some sort of legend.
Rapist.

Boadicea is the only name similar that I would use for a girl.
Boadicea - Boacie, Boasie, Bo, Boie, Bose, Bows.

SemperIdem · 30/05/2023 23:57

It’s pronounced like the knife, so bow to rhyme with low, not bow to rhyme how.

It’s dreadful name for a human.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 14/06/2023 23:34

Absolutely ridiculous 🙄

Bowie for a girl is a nice name. I know of a girl toddler who is called Bowie. Go for it.

Bow to rhyme with low.

Everyone will assume she's named after David Bowie.

First association for me is David Bowie, second is dogs (I know multiple dogs with this name… named after David Bowie). I would say bow like low but really don’t think it’s a good name for a human child.

Lol.

Mine is David, followed by a knife.

Please don't use 'knife' as the middle name.

Guavafish1 · 15/06/2023 05:24

Nice middle name

StopStartStop · 15/06/2023 05:37

Bow to rhyme with flow.
Bow to rhyme with cow.
Bow to rhyme with poo. The correct pronunciation of Bowie is Boo-ey, isn't it?

i have never heard the pronunciation Boo-ey before, that’s a new one!

MrsTerryPratchett · 15/06/2023 17:29

Isn't Booey how Americans say buoy?

Pemba · 15/06/2023 17:41

No, it's a surname obviously, and too associated with David Bowie. Dreadful as a child's first name, especially for a girl.

There are so many great names out there, why choose Bowie?

StopStartStop · 15/06/2023 18:05

Booey from the Bowie of knife fame. So I heard in the seventies. Not claiming any expertise.
