I’m not wild about Margaret and prefer Charlotte,

The nicknames however make me reverse my opinion… I much prefer Meg/Peggy/Daisy to Charlie/Lottie.

Sandysandwich · 19/05/2023 16:29

Charlotte 100%
I prefer the sound, look and nicknames of Charlotte its a lovely name.

Personally I don't like Margaret, it sounds quite old fashioned but not like the sweet old lady names catagory that are popular now. I hear a mix of margherita and regret.

helpmum2003 · 19/05/2023 16:37

Charlotte by a long way.

HuntingoftheSnark · 19/05/2023 16:43

I am in the minority but really like Margaret.

GoodVibesHere · 19/05/2023 16:46

Charlotte 100%

Cola2534 · 19/05/2023 16:49

I like Margaret and I love Maggie and Peggy. Some will immediately think of Margaret Thatcher but there are plenty of inspirational women who have borne that name; I can think of two in my life who I would love to honour.
Charlotte is very bland and ordinary in comparison.

lemonyellows · 19/05/2023 16:50

Neither

orangeflags · 19/05/2023 16:50

Margaret

HoldingTheDoor · 19/05/2023 16:52

Charlotte. Margaret is such an ugly sounding name.

Irritateandunreasonable · 19/05/2023 16:53

Margaret? I hope you’re not thinking of naming a baby that, it’s 2023 and the poor girl actually has to live with it.

Charlotte is boring but a much better option.

WhatsitAlfie · 19/05/2023 17:01

Margaret..be brave

Koalawhala · 19/05/2023 17:01

I like Margaret, I would use nn Margo

Topazbutterfly · 19/05/2023 17:27

I prefer Charlotte, I think it's a lovely name. I also think Lottie as a nickname is really nice

ellenpartridge · 19/05/2023 17:40

Charlotte

NewDelta · 19/05/2023 17:44

It's not even a contest! Charlotte.

I abhor the name Margaret, not just because of M Thatcher. Don't do this to your poor dd.

thatsn0tmyname · 19/05/2023 17:49

Consider Marguerite.

ourflagmeansdeath · 19/05/2023 17:50

Charlotte's so pretty, both on its own and with the nickname Lottie. Margaret I'm really not as keen on, although I do like Meg.

ZuckerwatterMaus · 19/05/2023 17:51

Charlotte , no competition.

NBLarsen · 19/05/2023 17:59

I really like Margaret, to me it's strong yet graceful. And I like Meg, Maggie or Margot as nicknames.
Charlotte is a bit bland sounding to me and Lottie is just awfully twee.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 19/05/2023 18:39

I have a teenage Margaret. Gets called Daisy, Peggy and Margaret depending teachers, scout leaders, family and friends.

SwedishEdith · 19/05/2023 18:43

Don't think they're equivalents at all. Margaret is such an ugly name. And the Mags/Maggie shortenings are even worse. Rhyming with saggy, baggy, naggy, craggy. All harsh sounds.

Thatsshallot1967 · 19/05/2023 18:49

thatsn0tmyname · 19/05/2023 17:49

Consider Marguerite.

Yes consider this, op. Marguerite is wonderful. I'm afraid Margaret is rather dowdy (but loads of great nicknames) and reminds me of "MarGRIT!" old lady from Little Britain and MIL .

MotherofPearl · 19/05/2023 18:51

Margaret is absolutely not an ugly name. I think it's a really strong, classic name (and much nicer than Charlotte).

RoseBucket · 19/05/2023 18:53

It would be lovely to bring Margaret back and lots of lovely nicknames from it.

bakewellbride · 19/05/2023 18:54

I have a Charlotte.
