Margeaux and Margaux absolutely are alternative spellings of Margot. Personally I prefer them as Margot always looks like Maggot to me!

Meg, Peggy and Maggie are sweet diminutive of Margaret if you end up going for it OP

@watermeloncougar , Margeaux does not give the Margo sound. It's bloomin' awful.

Margaux is ok as a wine name but looks like Mar-gox to me, but it's better than something that looks like Marj-ox. Margot looks like Maggot,so at least we agree on that.

Nooooo.

Margaux is at least phonetically correct. Margeaux is pronounced ‘mah-zho’ and is a completely different sound.

They are both classic named and lovely for that but Margaret's 'vibe' is more current .Charlotte feels a little passé.Margaret has the better nicknames.
Only issue that I can see is the Thatcher association for some families.

Off topic slightly but Penelope Keith's character in The Good Life was spelled "Margo".

As Duchess pointed out, "Margeaux" is an incorrect spelling - there is no e, which would change the pronunciation of the g.

Margaux is the correct spelling if you want -aux instead of -ot.

Margaret 100%

Hove Margie. (Hard g)

Snowdropsarelovely · 20/05/2023 17:46

I love Margaret , unusual and pretty

Justcashnosweets · 20/05/2023 17:49

Margaret but Maggie for short. Charlotte is boring and overdone.

SunnieShine · 20/05/2023 18:03

Margaret.

LSSG · 20/05/2023 18:18

Love Maggie and Lottie, but agree Lottie is overused, just depends how you feel about that. Not so keen on the longer versions but Charlotte probably preferable, Margaret would be a bit of a burden/niche option imo. Charlotte is very ordinary though.

TempsPerdu · 20/05/2023 18:24

Margaret would be my pick. It’s not a ‘pretty’ name (and some will obviously make the Thatcher connection) but it’s strong and elegant and ripe for a revival among some more adventurous parents I think. A baby Margaret would sound much more refreshing and modern than yet another Charlotte, plus it has so many great nicknames - I much prefer Meg/Maggie/Maisie/Daisy/Greta/Pearl to Charlie or Lottie. Lots of good namesakes (Thatcher aside) too.

Charlotte I’ve always found a bit prissy and buttoned up anyway - a very bland, ‘good girl’ name, and having been very popular for decades I think it needs a bit of a rest.

Modda · 20/05/2023 18:32

I don't mind Charlotte in my accent but people who say Charl Utt ruin it.

I'd go Margaret if it was out of those two.

mathanxiety · 20/05/2023 19:47

Margaret, by a long shot.

It's a classic and it has lovely diminutives.

LimeChelle · 20/05/2023 19:53

Charlotte x

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 20/05/2023 19:59

Both lovely names. I like Lottie, but I prefer Mags or Maggie. I absolutely adore Molly as a diminutive for Margaret, because that was my great grandmother . So I'd say Margaret.

CheesePleaseLoueese · 20/05/2023 20:55

I LOVE Margaret!!!

Daisybuttercup12345 · 20/05/2023 23:55

Definitely Charlotte.

GreySweater · 21/05/2023 00:16

Margaret, Maggie for short. Fantastic name.

SneezyEvie · 22/05/2023 17:43

Charlotte. I find Margaret really ugly (sorry to any Margarets!)
