Thinking of possible baby names with DH, which one do you prefer, Ivy-Mae or Merhat-Mae (Merhat is DH's gran's name)?

Either name, but remove the Mae. Ivy is prettier.

What they said 🔼

CheshireCats · 17/05/2023 18:09

Not Mae.

HagsGlen · 17/05/2023 18:10

Lose the hyphenated Mae. Either name.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 17/05/2023 18:16

As above: lose the tacky hyphenated part. By all means use May or Mae as a middle name, but step away from the hyphen!!

FayCarew · 17/05/2023 18:23

Ivy Merhat or Merhat Ivy
May is a filler middle name.

Ivy Merhat or Merhat Ivy
May is a filler middle name.

Good thought.

Agree with the comments about hyphenated names. I have one and I absolutely hate it.

MumofSpud · 17/05/2023 18:29

Ivy Mae (NO hyphen) is lovely

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 17/05/2023 18:30

I love Ivy Mae with no hyphen. I've never heard of Merhat but not keen...

MisschiefMaker · 17/05/2023 18:32

Ivy-Mae.

GoneTillNovember · 17/05/2023 18:32

I've never heard of Merhat. Is it just said like Mermaid but hat instead of maid?

Soubriquet · 17/05/2023 18:33

I’m not keen on the Merhat name… a bit too quirky I think.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 17/05/2023 18:36

I can't give a preference as I don't know how Merhat is pronounced.

Spendonsend · 17/05/2023 18:41

I agree with ditching the mae and having an Ivy Merhat or a Merhat Ivy

Twazique · 17/05/2023 18:43

I like Ivy Mae best. I would leave out the hyphen so she can chose Ivy or Ivy May.

I can't give a preference as I don't know how Merhat is pronounced.

I initially thought Mer-hat but then I thought, maybe it’s Mer-at

Prescottdanni123 · 17/05/2023 18:45

How is merhat pronounced?

welshweasel · 17/05/2023 18:46

Ditch the hyphenated Mae/May. Ivy is a lovely name. I'd use that and have Merhat as a middle name.

CatsOnTheChair · 17/05/2023 18:56

Ivy Merhat
Loose the hyphen.
Loose the Mae unless there is a reason for it.

PickledScrump · 17/05/2023 19:24

Ivy is lovely, hypens really cheapen a nice name and Mae is such a filler name.

Sweetlikecandy · 17/05/2023 19:27

Mae is awful

Axahooxa · 17/05/2023 19:32

Ivy

ElmTree22 · 17/05/2023 19:34

FayCarew · 17/05/2023 18:23

Ivy Merhat or Merhat Ivy
May is a filler middle name.

Ooooh I like Ivy Merhat

Heckythump1 · 17/05/2023 19:34

I've never heard of Merhat before and when I do google search, it's come up with this thread and not a lot else?
