Help with possible unusual boys name short and without E sound

Hoping for some help with ideas for boys names! Girls names were easy, and of course we find out we're having a boy...!!
We have really struggled to agree on names, our surname is unusual 2 syllables ending in an 'E' sound. So names ending in an E sound are out! (Lily, Rosie, Riley etc). Also the boys names we do kind of like don't seem to match our girl names (if we do ever get to use them!)

My worry is I love my girl names but don't love any boy names - do you have to love a name to use it?

Maybe you can give suggestions based on names we kind of like/agree on names we like?

Names we like/kind of agree on -
Leo (possibly Leandro with Leo for short)
Lorenz
Mateo/Maceo (not sure if I can get on board with the pronunciation in the middle of - tay-oh)
Kenzo (kind of dismissed now due to not liking the nickname of Kenny)
Luka
Theo - has come up but DH dismissed

I love Blake - DH won't go for it at all. I also liked Alexander/Zander/Xavier he doesn't.
He quite likes Zane - I'm not on board.

For reference our girls names were -
Gabriella/Gabrielle
Valentina
Alessandra
Isobel
Maddox/Maddison (I also like Maddox for a boy DH doesnt)

If you can help with any suggestions I would be so interested to see what people come up with that may match our style?!

Thanks!

@Journey2022 it's funny how it goes - there was a Leo in the maternity ward bed next to me, and one in our moms group when he was two, but since then not another anywhere (he is 7). We don't know any, and there are none in his year at school.

DD is Maia (pronounced MY - ah)

I seem to have an affinity for names that are not that popular when I pick them which then become commonplace...

You could always revive Gary, if you're brave enough 🤣

So basically give your child a Mediterranean name even if your not! Those names will look great with an English Smith/Thomas surname!!

Were not fully English. Also have a foreign surname. I noted our surname was "unusual".

Not that I need to justify that.

Many people with surnames of "Smith" still chose to go for unusual or Mediterranean style names maybe its just what they like!! 🙄

I love this!

I had 'Maya' on my list too actually!

Just the longer names we seemed to love/edge it more for us with girls - Not sure if its our ties to Italy that made us love the girls names we do 🤷🏻‍♀️ but definitely found the boys names harder to find and to match them - when we may not even have a girl next!

Thanks for sharing, it's definitely made me feel more confident in Leo.

Oh these are some great ideas - maybe not the bottom 4 they are maybe too British for my husband - he's leaning to the more Mediterranean/South American sounding names (me less so but getting my head around the idea!)

Geo as Gio was on my list (as in Giorgio or Giovanni) he seems to dismiss longer boys names.

Bruno

Caszekey · 17/05/2023 09:42

You're over thinking.

Name the child inside you. Don't worry about matchy matchy names for sisters that don't exist. I have 3 boys. If I'd have picked boys names based on sisters names, God knows what they'd be called.

What about
Azekiel /Ezekiel /Ezra
Castiel / Cassius
Lucien
Gabe

Milo
Beau
Luca
Otto
Hugo

TherealmrsT · 17/05/2023 09:48

Do the different lengths matter? I have a 3 letter name, sibling has much longer. They sound good together because for more than 50 years they are said together. (Sibling name can be shortened but actually in the family never is).

Geo as Gio was on my list (as in Giorgio or Giovanni) he seems to dismiss longer boys names.

I know Gio as short for Giovanni and Geo as short for George, but I prefer it as a standalone name. My husband is Arabic/Hispanic and my heritage is European so our name list was all over the map.

In the end, we chose a culturally ambiguous name, and will make an effort to teach and expose our son to all our cultures. If your son will have his Dads surname, then his culture and heritage is already being honored. If you love a name, then great! But I wouldn’t compromise for a name I didn’t love.

Florissante · 17/05/2023 10:03

Tarquin.

Hiddendoor · 17/05/2023 19:03

Jim, Tim, Bob are all fairly unusual these days.

From another thread

Reuben

Not very Italian though!

barmycatmum · 18/05/2023 03:18

If you like Alexander and he likes Zane, isn’t Zane a shortened version of Alexander ?

also:

Tim
Tom
Rob
Ben
Rhys
Franc
Tris (Tristan)

Flufs · 18/05/2023 03:20

Gabriel or Alexander with nickname Gabe. Alex or Xander for Alexander
