Help with possible unusual boys name short and without E sound

[Journey2022]

Hoping for some help with ideas for boys names! Girls names were easy, and of course we find out we're having a boy...!!
We have really struggled to agree on names, our surname is unusual 2 syllables ending in an 'E' sound. So names ending in an E sound are out! (Lily, Rosie, Riley etc). Also the boys names we do kind of like don't seem to match our girl names (if we do ever get to use them!)

My worry is I love my girl names but don't love any boy names - do you have to love a name to use it?

Maybe you can give suggestions based on names we kind of like/agree on names we like?

Names we like/kind of agree on -
Leo (possibly Leandro with Leo for short)
Lorenz
Mateo/Maceo (not sure if I can get on board with the pronunciation in the middle of - tay-oh)
Kenzo (kind of dismissed now due to not liking the nickname of Kenny)
Luka
Theo - has come up but DH dismissed

I love Blake - DH won't go for it at all. I also liked Alexander/Zander/Xavier he doesn't.
He quite likes Zane - I'm not on board.

For reference our girls names were -
Gabriella/Gabrielle
Valentina
Alessandra
Isobel
Maddox/Maddison (I also like Maddox for a boy DH doesnt)

If you can help with any suggestions I would be so interested to see what people come up with that may match our style?!

OP your girls names are all long - is there a reason why you are looking for a short boys name when you are obviously happy with polysyllabic girls names? You might find something you love for a boy if you look at longer names as this appears to be something you like for girls.

Ivo was the first that came to mind

I was convinced I was having a girl but he was a little boys. Six months old. He's called Samuel. My grandad who died when I was 8 had the same name but it's not. Particularly for those reason just loved the name. My first choice would have been Jude but DH hated it

Honestly can't say why we seem to like longer girls names vs boys names. And it does worry me our girls and boys names don't match at all.

I like Nathaniel and put that to DH he said no. Boys versions of valentina I don't like for a boy 🤷🏻‍♀️

This is our struggle!

We have had totally different ideas for boys names which is why we have found it so hard to find some we maybe agree on or more that I compromise on..!! Also why our list I'd small and so different to the girl names.

My dc has a boy in their year called Eban; I'd never heard it before but I'm a bit in love with it, I think it's a fab name.

I have a Leo! (Not short for anything). We struggled with boys names too but agreed on that one. It's kind of after Leo McGary in the West Wing 😳

I do actually like Leandro as a long form, hadn't heard that before.

@Aria999 oh really! Leo is a clear front runner at the moment. But conscious it's a short name and if we have a girl next (hopeful thinking!) all the names we like are really long!

Do you have any other children? If so what are they called? Would love to know what sibling names you have for Leo!

Also, is your DS at school yet? Are there other Leo's in his year?

My other concern with Leo being no.6 in popularity currently that there will be a few in his class/year!

I just expected your girls list to be Ava, Lara, Mia, Thea, etc as often when people are looking for a short name it's because they have a long or double barrelled surname and they want to keep the letters/syllables down.

A few of the boys names you do like aren't short so I wonder if you might be missing a long name you love by focusing on short names as your girl list are 3 or 4 syllables. Also if you and your DH have very different preferences you might find something that you love the full name and he loves the short version e.g. while he has said no to Nathaniel would he be happy with Nathan, Nate or Nat?

We were the opposite we agreed a boys name in seconds but never found 'the one' for a girl as we had very different taste in girls names. Good job we had a boy. If I'd had a girl I have no idea what we would have called her!

I like Mateo best from your list. Xander, Leo and Luca also nice names.
