Thinking of calling my son Campbell. Its a family name. It's quite serious and grown up so he will probably be called Cammy.

What does everyone think?

Souper 👌

Tartantop · 16/05/2023 11:58

I love it!

GoneTillNovember · 16/05/2023 12:35

I loved this name and it was always top of my list. DH wasn't keen because he knew someone at school 🙄

You'll get handwringing on MN about it being a surname but so are the majority of boys names really, and particularly so with Scottish names.

Marcipex · 16/05/2023 12:39

Sorry but Cammy is dire. Oh

Souper 👌

My first thought too!

AfingeroffudgeisNOTenough · 16/05/2023 12:43

Cam/Cammy is quite common in Scotland - more these days as a shortened version of Cameron than Campbell but it works just as well for Campbell. I like it

DuchessOfSausage · 16/05/2023 13:48

Curse of the Campbells

Eudaimonia5 · 16/05/2023 13:50

How about Heinz or Baxter? Cup-a-Soup?

TallulahBetty · 16/05/2023 13:51

LOL

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 16/05/2023 13:52

I know a little Campbell and he is lovely! He doesn’t get Cammy though

Dazedandbemused0 · 16/05/2023 13:53

TallulahBetty · 16/05/2023 13:51

LOL

Sorry but that’s a really rude comment from someone with a name as controversial as Tallulah! (Which incidentally I love but Mumsnet hates and mocks constantly. I’d expect you to be a bit more compassionate based on this!)

Daisybuttercup12345 · 16/05/2023 13:53

Soup.
Cammay was a soap.
Cameron?

....you really think that is my real name?

I agree- I can’t get the reactions to this name at all. I think it’s nice, and actually I don’t really think about the soup at all, and more than I think about jam when I hear the surname Robertson.

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 16/05/2023 13:58

*any more

Purplecatshopaholic · 16/05/2023 14:01

Quite a common name up here in Scotland - I love it.

Skybluepinky · 16/05/2023 14:04

Use as a middle name, it’s a name they’ll b teased about.

Ryanstartedthefire2 · 16/05/2023 14:27

Thanks for the replies.

I didnt think it was such a controversial name. Maybe there's an England/Scotland divide happening as I'm up North and I always thought it was a pretty standard name.

I've never bought the soup. More of a Heinz tomato girl.

Someone said they could be bullied with this name. Is that cos it sounds like camel or because of the camp part? Or something else that I'm completely missing!

Campbell is a v common name where I am - wouldn't think twice if I heard it. Plenty of Cammys around too!

toomuchlaundry · 16/05/2023 14:51

I would think soup, but am a southerner.

GlitteryFarts · 16/05/2023 14:53

I went to school with a campbell. I'd never heard of it before then as we are in the north west but his parents were Scottish. He was a dish every girl fancied him! Never got bullied for his name in fact he was very popular and well liked.

Twiggywinkle13 · 16/05/2023 14:54

Fellow Scot here, plenty of Campbell’s about. I think Cammy is a cute pet name. I’ve recently had a DS who has a very Scottish name also and has a shortened pet name.

weebarra · 16/05/2023 14:57

It's my maiden name and I did think about it as a first name for one of my DSs. It's not uncommon up here.

lovelsa · 16/05/2023 15:00

My friend named her little girl Campbell (nn Cam) and she's super cute!

Alex Drake · 16/05/2023 15:05

I like it, not heard it being used lots here (NE Scotland), I have one adult friend Campbell who is only known as Soupy :-)
