I know so many and all were names because of the game of thrones character

Not for me - sounds too much like Aryan (Nazi connotations)

Lol - I have an Arya & yes, it was because of Game of Thrones.
No-one has every mentioned it being similar to Aryan - the pronunciation is completely different.

I like it, heard it from GOT but don’t know anyone who is called it. I think you get a lot of snobby comments on threads like these when a name has come from a character, with people like pp who say things like ‘OMG I KNOW SO MANY’!! I bet you actually don’t. I’ve googled it out of interest and it’s something like the 146th most popular name in the uk. It’s not like Olivia or Olivia where theres likely to be one or two wherever you go.

Yep @Fiddlerdragon & few people seem to realise GoT were a set of books long before the TV series was made.
I'm named after a character in a well-known book, yet because it's considered a classic no-one has the vapours over it.

I know a few little Aryans - pronounced Aahr-yun. It’s a Muslim name.

If I saw Aryan written down I would assume it was that name, and not Nazi related.

Vanessa and Pamela also came from books.

The Aria spelling is more usual. Pronounced ARE-ya, or ARE-ee-a, not like Maria

It’s annoying what names people get funny over, when others are fine but they’ve come from the same sort of thing. I’m Welsh and I’ve always wanted a little girl called Arwen. Unfortunately the first of the lord of the rings movies came out just before she was born, and I decided to swerve it as all I’d get was ‘you named her after the elf’? Funnily enough I read the books back in the 80’s, 30 years before she was born, and I did also read the first 2 or 3 game of thrones books before the series started 🤷🏼‍♀️

I love it, it's absolutely gorgeous. I prefer this spelling to Aria by a little but they're both lovely either way. I know quite a few but none are due to GOT but because it's a popular name in South Asia as it's a Sanskrit origin.

I love it. And peak GOT was years ago so probably not as common now on terms of numbers in her class

Funny story to that.
Cat Starks actor is Scottish and so she said it like that.
It's supposed to sound the same as Aria but she was the first to say it in the series when she shouts it...and so it was.
