This is our list. We've worked on it quite a bit over the past couple of days and we'd like to know what you think.

Ava
Susan
May
Luanna
Beverly
Jane
Shirley
June
Chloe
Luana
Mary
Hope

We like retro-names, but you can be honest if you think they are not ready for a comeback. To us they already sound nice again.

Comment on all names are appreciated, but if you don't have much time just let us know your favourite and least favourite and tell us a bit about why you dislike or like the names.

OP posts:

Mimilamore · 15/05/2023 16:57

June Mary Shirley and Jane are lovely...

Mimilamore · 15/05/2023 16:58

Beverley Ava Chloe not so....

GG1986 · 15/05/2023 16:58

Hope or Chloe.

GiraffeLaSophie · 15/05/2023 17:00

Ava- Nice enough but a bit overused

Susan- I don’t like Susan. Susie is nice.

May- Much the same as Ava.

Luanna- Not keen.

Beverly- I think this is awful, sorry. I would (inwardly!) assume you were winding me up if you told me you were calling your daughter this, unless I knew it was the name of a much loved relative.

Jane- Inoffensive, I would probably assume she was named after someone.

Shirley- Almost as bad as Beverly.

June- Same as Jane.

Chloe- I think this is nice. It’s a very popular name for my generation, but not so much now.

Luana- Not keen, but prefer it to Luanna.

Mary- Nice, due a comeback I think.

Hope- This is by far my favourite.

I’m sorry if this seems overly harsh, but I am assuming you want honest opinions! 😳

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 15/05/2023 17:04

Hope and Chloe best (but Hope is ahead)
Luanne and Shirley least

MmaRra · 15/05/2023 17:04

1st Mary
2nd Hope

No to all the rest, especially Beverly, Shirley and Chloe.

BTMadmummy · 15/05/2023 17:07

Love these

Ava
May
Mary
Hope

QueenoftheAngles · 15/05/2023 17:08

Ava - pretty but really popular and has been for while
Susan - I really like and think it’ll have a come back but the shortening to Sue puts me off a bit
May - same as Ava
Luanna - not a fan, sounds a bit made up and is us pronounced Lu ar na or Lu a na?
Beverly - not keen, bit place name and she’d be Bev which I don’t think is nice
Shirley - also not keen, just don’t think it has a nice sound and also “Shirl”
June - ok but is it her birth month because lots will assume it is
Chloe - really popular about 20 years ago.
Luana - as per Luanna
Mary - love it , probably favourite of all your list. Classic, not overused, everyone knows how to say spell, works for little one or adult and it’s pretty.
Hope - ok but not a fan of virtue type names

Pemba · 15/05/2023 17:08

Chloe is gorgeous I think, my favourite of your names. You may get people saying its very 90s, yes it was popular then but it's also classic. I also love Zoe, did you consider that?

Second fav Mary, very classic, nice sound, about due for a comeback. You can say similar for Jane and Susan (have you considered Susannah?)

I wouldnt pick Ava, nice enough but really overused at the moment.

My least favourite, Beverley, are you serious with that one? Such an ugly name, even when it was popular. I was born in the 60s and there was a Beverley in my class, felt sorry for her for her name.

There were Janes and Susans at school in the 70s but no Marys, that was considered a mum name, so perhaps that means that Mary is due to be revived first, as it seems to go in cycles.

shoopshoopdedoo · 15/05/2023 17:14

Favourites: Mary or Chloe

OK: Ava, Jane and, surprisingly, I think Shirley - kind of so clunky I think it’s quite cool?!

Dislike: May and June (I don’t like day/month/season names), Hope (same with virtue names…), Susan and Beverly (not ready for a revival) - obviously all just my opinion!

Least favourite: Luanna/Luana. I don’t like this at all!

Sandysandwich · 15/05/2023 17:15

I like Ava
Beverly is mean

musixa · 15/05/2023 17:17

Jane favourite and Susan the least.

wizzler · 15/05/2023 17:18

Love May , June and Hope
Don't like Shirley or Beverly so much

MarjorieMoss · 15/05/2023 17:18

Dislike:
Luana
Shirley
June
Jane
Beverley
Luanna
Susan

ThePersistenceOfMammories · 15/05/2023 17:20

Love Jane/Janie and June/Juno

Luana puts me in mind of an old diner waitress with lipstick on her teeth.

Shirley/Beverley/Mary are my mums mates

Bax765 · 15/05/2023 17:20

Favourite: Chloe
It is a nice name and quite timeless I think!

Least favourite: Shirley
It is quite dated (and makes me think of the film Airplane..! "Surely you can't be serious" "I am, and don't call me Shirley")

hiredandsqueak · 15/05/2023 17:21

Favourite Mary or May
Least Favourite Luana/Luanna Susan

UseOfWeapons · 15/05/2023 17:22

Favourite - Jane
Least favourites - Luana, Luanna and Beverly

Greensleeves · 15/05/2023 17:23

My favourite is Susan, I think it's so sweet and definitely due a revival. Susie is adorable for a little girl.

Beverly, Shirley and Luanne are dreadful. The others are nice, though Jane is a bit colourless.

Shadowworry · 15/05/2023 17:24

Treasureboxkey · 15/05/2023 14:29

Ava- nice but popular which would put me off but may not bother you.
Susan- don't like the nickname Sue which feels inevitable.
May- pretty but forgettable and now common as a middle name.
Luanna- don't like, feels cheep.
Beverly- don't like
Jane- dull
Shirley- don't like.
June- really pretty.

Chloe- a bit 90s, not old enough to be cool but pretty enough.
Luana- as above
Mary- cute
Hope- really pretty. I know a gorgeous 3 year old hope and a 90 year old one so it feels timeless to me.

Please much my views

MiniEggsAllYear · 15/05/2023 17:24

June is quite sweet actually but I'm not loving any of them.

SunnyEgg · 15/05/2023 17:25

Favourite Chloe or Mary

Least favourite Shirley, Beverly and Luanna

ICMB · 15/05/2023 17:32

I love Susan and Jane, classic names.
not a fan of Luana or Hope, a bit ‘out there’ for me.
I will say, there are LOTS of baby girls called Ava these days so bear that in mind.
