This is our list. We've worked on it quite a bit over the past couple of days and we'd like to know what you think.

Ava
Susan
May
Luanna
Beverly
Jane
Shirley
June
Chloe
Luana
Mary
Hope

We like retro-names, but you can be honest if you think they are not ready for a comeback. To us they already sound nice again.

Comment on all names are appreciated, but if you don't have much time just let us know your favourite and least favourite and tell us a bit about why you dislike or like the names.

Jemimapuddleduk · 15/05/2023 15:12

i like Jane, May and Mary
Not too keen on Ava, Susan, Luanna, Beverly, Shirley, Chloe

have you considered Suzanna (sounds fresher than Susan) and Faith?

EggInANest · 15/05/2023 15:21

Favourite: Hope, Mary.

Least: Beverly, Luan/na, Susan

I mean…. Beverly???

HuntingoftheSnark · 15/05/2023 15:21

My favourite is Mary. It's classic, elegant and appropriate for all ages. Can't easily be shortened either. I'm not that keen on any of the others but actively dislike Luanna and Luana - they sound made up and not real names (to me).

ourflagmeansdeath · 15/05/2023 15:22

Ava - It is honestly really pretty
Susan - Not keen on this tbh
May - It just doesn't sound like a full name, too short and means 2 different things too (month+i may do this...)
Luanna - It's alright
Beverly - Beverly Hills?? This is a no
Jane - It's too plain for me
Shirley - Oh god awful
June - It's actually quite nice and lovelier than May
Chloe - Not my kind of name but nothing wrong with it
Luana - Same as Luanna tbh
Mary- I love Mary and it'd be so fresh now as nobody uses it
Hope - Really lovely name

My favourite is probably Hope and least fav would be Shirley or Beverly

staybyyou · 15/05/2023 15:23

I like June the best.

I also like May and Mary. Not so keen on the rest.

helpmum2003 · 15/05/2023 15:42

RuthW · 15/05/2023 15:55

Favourite - June

Least favourite - Mary

Coronationstation · 15/05/2023 16:15

Ava - ok
Susan - not due a revival
May - awful
Luanna - awful
Beverly - not due a revival
Jane - not due a revival
Shirley - not due a revival
June - not due a revival
Chloe - the best of a bad bunch
Luana - awful
Mary - ok
Hope - meh, ok as a middle name but not a first name.

PinkOrangeTulip · 15/05/2023 16:21

I quite like Ava & Hope but none of the other names are my taste, sorry op.
Some of them are too old school/dated for me, especially Susan, Jane, Beverley and Shirley.

greenmarsupial · 15/05/2023 16:21

Ava - lovely but very popular
Susan - too boring. Susanna is nicer
May - I think this is pretty but it has been overused as a middle name
Luanna - too American for me
Beverly - I think this is quite an ugly name
Jane - as with May but the previous generation
Shirley - not ready for a comeback!
June - pretty and classic
Chloe - I don't love it but it's always quiet and steadily popular
Luana - as above
Mary - quite plain but ok
Hope - pretty

So I'd say June or Hope

My colleague has just had a Juno which is quite a striking name.

IHeartGeneHunt · 15/05/2023 16:23

I like Shirley and Beverley, although I know a Beverley and she hates it! Also like Mary.

I don't like Ava and Chloe.

Liv999 · 15/05/2023 16:28

Fave - Ava, I know it's popular but it's beautiful
Least Fave - June, old fashioned and not in a good way, also Susan which will get shortened to Sue, just no

caringcarer · 15/05/2023 16:34

Favourite Mary, least liked Luanna/Luana.

Runningslow · 15/05/2023 16:35

It’s sounds like you’ve been watching Brookside reruns.
Chloe - quite like, Ava ok but very popular, rest remind me of old women and not in a good way

DoingALeicester · 15/05/2023 16:35

Favourite - Mary
Least favourite - Luana / Luanna

Susan a close 2nd for me.

snazzlealpaca · 15/05/2023 16:36

I like Shirley (due a comeback, might be the next Elsie), Jane (my favourite Auntie's name) and June.
Not so keen on Beverley or Luanna.
I also like Ava, Hope and May, although they are much more popular, so it depends if you are looking for something that would be more likely to be a one off.

Comedycook · 15/05/2023 16:41

Ava. Gorgeous but overused now
Susan. Ah, are you giving birth to a 62 year old hospital receptionist?
May meh
Luanna or Luana gorgeous
Beverly. Love it but not sure the rest of the world is ready.
Jane. Bland
Shirley too dated to be cool
June. Quite sweet
Chloe. Always loved it...it's beautiful but quite 90s
Mary frumpy
Hope. Dislike

Spcd · 15/05/2023 16:45

Fave: Susan, Hope
Dislike: Luanna, Shirley and Mary

The others are all nice enough

CurlewKate · 15/05/2023 16:46

Jane and Mary are my favourites. Both really unusual.

Absolutely loathe Louanna. Sorry.

StopFeckingFaffing · 15/05/2023 16:50

Jane/June/Hope/Chloe - my favourites, all great choices for a 2023 baby girl

Ava, May - different vibe to above and both overused in recent years (May as a middle name to be fair but I much prefer all 4 above names to May)

I've not keen on the rest. Beverly/Susan are dated and not in a good way. Luanna sounds made up.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 15/05/2023 16:52

I quite like Luanne / Luanna - not a name I know so neither too popular or dated like some of the others

Ava May (probably used very commonly together but I like )

Ava Jane

Mary Jane
