Dorabella

Was watching a s5 Doctor Who episode and this name popped up.

I actually adore it so much. And we were settled on the name Heidi for my daughter but I'm now having debates. DH loves Dorabella too and doesn't mind which one we go for and says it's all up to me.

The middle name will definitely be Rose - I know it's popular but it has special meaning to us.

We also love the nicknames Dorabella proposes - both Dora and Belle/a are very pretty to us but our daughter would probably be a Dora.

So Dorabella Rose or Heidi Rose??

Err, Heidi. For sure.

Zola1 · 08/05/2023 15:38

Heidi. Dorabella sounds like a cartoon fairy to me

Prettypaisleyslippers · 08/05/2023 15:38

Nope to Dorabella

KirstenBlest · 08/05/2023 15:39

Rose is a bit overused as a middle name. How about Dorabella Melody?

GeraltsBathtub · 08/05/2023 15:39

Definitely Heidi Rose. Dorabella sounds like a Disney princess invented by chat GPT.

user4750 · 08/05/2023 15:40

God no

minipie · 08/05/2023 15:41

Definitely not Dorabella. It might be cute on a 2 year old but it’s just a bit silly otherwise (IMO).

Dora Rose, Bella Rose, Heidi Rose are all great. You could even do Dora Bella Rose if you wanted. But not Dorabella.

I know Rose is overused but it's both my mother's name and DH's sister's name so we absolutely want to use it. Just depends whether Dorabella or Heidi flows better.

Why on earth would you suggest Melody when the OP has already said she knows it’s overused but she wants it anyway because it means something special to her?!

OP, no. Dorabella is just awful. Heidi, on the other hand, is absolutely lovely.

Squirrelsnut · 08/05/2023 15:41

Heidi.

Newyeardietstartstomorrow · 08/05/2023 15:41

Her nickname would be Ring.

Porridgeislife · 08/05/2023 15:41

I hear Dorabella and think “doorbell”. Heidi is lovely!

BreviloquentBastard · 08/05/2023 15:42

Heidi is mad popular at the moment, I know three baby Heidi's already and another couple who has it shortlisted.

But Dorabella sounds like someone who teaches kids their ABC's on Ceebeebies with the help of a charming puppet character.

Of the two Heidi is far better.

TomatoSandwiches · 08/05/2023 15:43

Heidi Rose.

Dorabella is awful, just awful.

Lolloped · 08/05/2023 15:43

I much prefer Heidi to Dorabella. I also like Pandora, Isadora or Isabella if you want a Dora or a Bella

90stalgia · 08/05/2023 15:43

Sounds too much like 'door bell'.

Dorabella is a very silly name. Heidi also fairly silly but not as much as Dorabella ffs.

grishaverse · 08/05/2023 15:45

Okay didn't think of the doorbell thing! Might be sticking with Heidi then, we do still absolutely love that name.

I don't necessarily want Dora or Bella as names, I just love Dorabella and was thinking a nickname would probably need to be used as it's 4 syllables. Although Isadora was on my list but DH hates it for some reason!!

Why is Heidi a silly name? Just want to make sure I'm not missing any bad connotations again

Definitely Heidi. Dorabella is what I would have called my cabbage patch doll when I was 8

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 08/05/2023 15:46

Dora is lovely. Don’t use the Bella part . I really don’t like the name Heidi . Dora Rose is beautiful.

Leafytrees · 08/05/2023 15:47

Isadora is nice and also a proper name. I'm afraid Dorabella sounds like a made up name for someone's door bell!

Chocolatesandroses · 08/05/2023 15:47

I actually had to Google to see if it was actual name or a name made up lol sorry op Dorabella is awful but if you like it then choose it . I prefer Heidi

This 👆🏻

I named my eldest a ‘very popular name’ and I don’t regret it. It suits him perfectly and in reality we’ve only come across his namesake twice, and not in any of his primary or secondary classes.

Heidi is lovely. Also the pp who suggested Pandora, Isadora etc has given some lovely alternatives
