Dorabella

Was watching a s5 Doctor Who episode and this name popped up.

I actually adore it so much. And we were settled on the name Heidi for my daughter but I'm now having debates. DH loves Dorabella too and doesn't mind which one we go for and says it's all up to me.

The middle name will definitely be Rose - I know it's popular but it has special meaning to us.

We also love the nicknames Dorabella proposes - both Dora and Belle/a are very pretty to us but our daughter would probably be a Dora.

So Dorabella Rose or Heidi Rose??

This might be pregnancy hormones talking. When I was pregnant with dd I was adamant I was going to call her Mabel however I wanted the spelling Maybelle. Thought it was lovely etc etc. Now I can look back and see how awful it is.

Dora in itself is a lovely name and Dora Rose sounds good. Heidi is also good, I know a lovely Heidi.

Heidi is bad enough, being sickly twee, but words fail me at Dorabella. Poor child.

I have a friend called Heidi, from a time and place where it was very uncommon. It’s not a silly name at all.

I'm not a fan of dorabella - reminds me of door belle but how about Adora. Could then have nickname dora still or Addie

You may have just convinced me to let go of Dorabella because I was thinking of Maybelle too for my first daughter and now I think it's absolutely mental - she's just a normal Mabel now! I think for my 2nd, she will be a Heidi, thanks all!! Mabel and Heidi do seem good together too😊

Another vote for Dora Rose, it’s a lovely name . The Bella part is too much.

Dorabella is the name of our dachshund draught excluder.

It's one of the characters in Mozart's opera Cosi Fan Tutte and also one of Elgar's Enigma Variations, though the woman in question there was actually Dora.

Maybe just go with Dora or Bella but it's not 'truly awful', just unusual.

Dora - nice. Bella - nice. Heidi - OK. Dorabella sounds like something my daughter would have called a doll when she was about 4. Remember you are not just naming a cute baby but she will one day be an adult woman!

Yes Heidi is silly because it’s kitsch and sort of high on a hill was a lonely goatheard…

Sorry but Dorabella sounds like a character from in the night garden. Do the kid a favour and give them a name that suits an adult!
