Is this name still a no go due to Frozen?
A bit disconnected from how popular this franchise still is with little ones, but I know it was super popular when it was first released, although believe this was some time ago now.
Personally think there are worse associations but interested to hear thoughts as it is a lovely name in its own right!

Frozen definitely still very significant in this house

JeanieJo · 06/05/2023 17:54

It’s a beautiful name and shouldn’t be a no-go just because of frozen. I know an adult Elsa and always think her name is so pretty.

FayCarew · 06/05/2023 17:54

I think it's lovely, but it's not much used, unless they are all Elizabeth on their BC.
You might need to let it go.

yellowmeerkat · 06/05/2023 17:55

@FayCarew was wondering how long it would take for someone to tell me I had to let it go 😂😂😂

And they wouldn’t be Elizabeth, just Elsa

It's coronation day.

NetballHoop · 06/05/2023 18:04

For me, Elsa is a lion who sadly died young.

RagingWoke · 06/05/2023 18:05

Still very a popular franchise, there are also shorts, a mini series, frozen 2 and the stage show and possibly a live action the way Disney is going, if the association bothers you. If it doesn't go for it!

I know sisters at DCs school called Elsa and Anna, entirely frozen inspired.

😂

Whenever I meet a child Elsa I try and work out the maths to see if they were born pre or post frozen.
It is a lovely name but definitely linked to the film imo

toastofthetown · 06/05/2023 18:10

I love Elsa. It’s short, easy to say, easy to spell, familiar without being over-popular and travels well. I don’t think the Frozen association makes it unusable, but the connection is very present. Frozen is one of Disney’s biggest recent movies, it’s a massive franchise and there’s a third one coming out soon. I’d expect a lot of people to reference Frozen when she’s introduced, and if consistently being asked ‘oh like in Frozen’ would be tiresome for you, I’d avoid the name. The association is extremely strong and not going anywhere anytime soon.

purplemunkey · 06/05/2023 18:11

They’ve also recently announced there will be a Frozen 3, so the connection certainly won’t die down any time soon.

Beginningless · 06/05/2023 18:13

Definitely frozen association, but for me the issue is more that it’s a wet, insipid name. Sorry for being direct if it’s unwanted but that’s what I think.

yellowmeerkat · 06/05/2023 18:16

Good to know there is a frozen 3 coming, that is key information!!

@Beginningless all opinions welcome

Used to love the name until I went on tiktok to see what all the fuss was about and stumbled across an awful gobby woman effing and blinding, gone right off it now.

AllOrNothingSituation · 06/05/2023 18:38

I have a 5 year old dd and yes it’s still very very popular in fact she wanted a frozen dress for her birthday it won’t be dying out any time soon

yellowmeerkat · 06/05/2023 18:39

Thanks all. Think it may be back to the drawing board with this one…

How about Ailsa?

Firsttimecaller · 06/05/2023 18:50

Ailsa is nicer and more rare I think.

yellowmeerkat · 06/05/2023 18:53

@Firsttimecaller and @Raera thanks for the suggestion, how do you pronounce this please?

OP posts:
Simonlebonbon · 06/05/2023 19:07

Ailsa's I know pronounce it like ale-sa as in ale.
It's pretty! I've met 2 🥰

Elsie is lovely also 😍

DramaAlpaca · 06/05/2023 19:13

Elsa is too Frozen, which is unfortunate as it's a pretty name.

I do prefer Ailsa though, I've only ever met one and I think it's beautiful.

Elsie is awful, it's both twee and dreary.

yellowmeerkat · 06/05/2023 19:14

@Simonlebonbon thank you for the clarification, never come across this name before. One to think about for sure!

yellowmeerkat · 06/05/2023 19:14

@DramaAlpaca agreed re Elsie. It’s too old lady vibes to me.
