Is this name still a no go due to Frozen?
A bit disconnected from how popular this franchise still is with little ones, but I know it was super popular when it was first released, although believe this was some time ago now.
Personally think there are worse associations but interested to hear thoughts as it is a lovely name in its own right!

I know an Elsa, who was born around the time the film came out and I've always thought it was an odd choice.

I like the name but it's just too associated with one fictional character. A bit like calling your child Lyra (also know one of those).

Elsa is still a lion to me.
Despite having an 11 year old DD who was completely Frozen target market (but she hated the film).

Ailsa (ale - sa) is lovely. Dd was nearby Ailsa, but we decided it was too similar to my name.

It’s a pretty name. Frozen is still very much a thing even amongst young children who weren’t even born when the first one came out. Elsa is a great character; strong, resilient, loves her sister etc so not a bad association for anyone to have if they should think of Frozen when you introduce your little one as Elsa x

There's an Elsa in my DT's class. She's 6. Lovely name, I like it Op.

Raera · 06/05/2023 19:38

I'm delighted you are considering my Ailsa suggestion!
I've only known one, a very pretty gentle child with a soft Scottish accent.

PickledScrump · 06/05/2023 20:40

I don’t think Elsa is that popular as a name, people just avoid it because of the films but I don’t think it’s really that big of an issue.

Ailsa is nice but the one I know has ended up being called Elsa all through school anyway. I think Elsa is nicer than Ailsa too.

Too soon! sorry OP

useless1000 · 06/05/2023 21:01

The only Elsa I know is constantly asked if she wants to build a snowman

AllOrNothingSituation · 06/05/2023 21:05

ailsa is horrible sorry

eatdrinkandbemerry · 06/05/2023 21:50

She will forever hear let it go 👎🏻.
I know an Ailsa and love the name

tiktokboom · 06/05/2023 22:12

Ailsa is a lady with a mullet from Home and Away as far as I'm concerned.

I like Rosa if it's the ending you like.

greenplan · 06/05/2023 22:15

I honestly haven't heard anything frozen related for ages and I have several young daughters.

I know an Elsa, she's 6. As far as I know she's never had any issues.

Yup, same here. Alf & Ailsa
Elsa is a lovely name. Yes Frozen is still very popular with little girls, but she's a great character so I'd still use it.

yellowmeerkat · 07/05/2023 10:09

Thanks all. I think if it were my decision alone I’d still go with Elsa but my DH is really very put off by the Frozen association (even more so now he’s found out Frozen 3 is on the way) so I think unfortunately need to rethink.

The one I know has ‘Let it go’ sang at her whenever she introduces herself to someone new and it really annoys her!

lljkk · 07/05/2023 11:22

We have a lionness-looking moggy called Elsa... She's an enormously needy coward, least lioness personality ever lol. Big paws, though.

It's a lovely name. For maybe similar, what about :
Clara, Tess(a), Fleur, Bridget, Ingrid, Greta, Belinda, Felicity, Isolde...
