Peony

Well, the Oenone thread made me think of an old favourite: Peony.

Not usable, right? Or do you think it is not as obvious? Middle name?

The other P-flower names I love are Posy and Poppy.

I like Peony

Also like Tansy. Not so Greek though 😁just another more unusual flower name

PickledScrump · 05/05/2023 22:48

I think it’s actually quite nice. Pea is a cute nn too

Threesmycrowd · 05/05/2023 22:50

Not a goer for me!

Gowlett · 05/05/2023 22:52

Somebody (like my MIL) would say Pee-Owny.

EatTheDamnCake · 05/05/2023 22:54

I like Posy short for Primrose

toastofthetown · 05/05/2023 23:34

I LOVE Peony. Peonies are one of my favourite flowers and such a pretty sound. I also like Posy, but I think Poppy seems a bit drab in comparison. I also like Primrose, while on the topic of P flower names (and I have a Pandora cherry blossom too, which another one I love).

SemperIdem · 06/05/2023 01:16

They are my favourite flower.

But the name is a very short walk to “pee on me”.

So of all the flower names, I’d say this is one of the least usable, sorry

dwightschrutebeets · 06/05/2023 02:12

I love posy

Sandysandwich · 06/05/2023 05:56

I don't think it reslly works as a name. Maybe as a middle?

This

Poppy, peony and petunia are names of three sisters in a famous children's book and I can't for the life of me remember which one.
It's a very pretty name. There is also primrose which is quite nice.

Yeah, this. A stunning flower but doesn’t work well as a name at all.

Figgygal · 06/05/2023 14:09

Bullies would have a field day with it I expect

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 06/05/2023 14:48

I normally take the view that children very very rarely tease each other for their names, but even I think it would be unwise to give a child a name that is only one consonant away from ‘pee on me’. Sorry OP.

Totally.

Inkypot · 06/05/2023 17:00

I like it but I disagree with the person above who suggested "pea" as a nickname. Would definitely be changed to "pee" which isn't so great.
A shame though cos Peony is a sweet name. I love Posy but dislike Primrose. I like Poppy and Petunia though.

Helenahandkart · 06/05/2023 17:36

Great if you want your daughter to be relentlessly bullied. Other than that it’s a really pretty name.

NamingNames · 06/05/2023 17:43

My ex had a daughter called Peony - never had any problems with her name throughout school (she'd be 20 now), nickname at home was Pe (pronounced pee / pea).

Bullies will find any reason if they want to. My brother got bullied because of our surname, I didn't. He just had more little shits in his class and reacted more to teasing than I did. There's not much you can do to control it.

DisforDarkChocolate · 06/05/2023 17:51

I think it's an excellent choice for a girl's name.

Ladysquamy · 07/05/2023 18:39

I love posy. I used to have a my little pony called posy.

You think a homophone for pee is a cute nickname? This is a joke right?

Do you mean Pauline, Petrova and Posy Fossil? (Sorry, I can't think of the name of the book - it might be Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfield).
Or is there a different book with the names you said?

AuntieStella · 07/05/2023 18:44

I love the flowers.

But I think it's unusable as a name, as would be anything starting "pee" (let alone "pee on")

Though I think tucked away in the middle it would be ok

PickledScrump · 07/05/2023 20:10

@GeraltsBathtub im unsure why you would assume it to be a joke. It’s a common nn for name’s beginning with P. Too many adults on here act utterly ridiculous, far worse than any children would
