One is my favourite, one is my husband's. Our baby girl is already here!

Which do you prefer?

Grace

Elizabeth known as Beth

Elizabeth- but let her choose her own NN if its even needed? Why give someone a name and then use a NN all the time???

Rbaby · 30/04/2023 07:48

Thank you so much everyone. A lot of food for thought. I'd say Elizabeth appears a little more popular?
I'm not particularly struck on Beth - this is DH's preferred diminutive. So I've been trying to get my head around it and see if it grows on me. We don't really like Bethan or Bethany.

I feel like we've gone round and round with names and I/we have gone off them all!
First child was a joint choice, second I had the final decision.
Any more classic girl name ideas?
I liked Anna, husband no longer likes this.

I really like both. Maybe Grace a little more.

DustyLee123 · 30/04/2023 08:15

Both nice but I’d run with Elizabeth

strawberryfluff · 30/04/2023 08:18

Elizabeth. Can't stand Grace.

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 30/04/2023 08:24

Both quite boring I reckon. Elizabeth the better of the two. What about Rosalind, Laura, Emerald or Cassia?

preEclampsiaMun · 30/04/2023 08:27

Anna is lovely

Dont use grace unless youre quits sure shell be pretty and slim. Awful name to carry otherwise a bit like Angel

DoNutSweatTheSmallStuff · 30/04/2023 08:29

I like Bethan, Beth for short. Bethany is also nice.
Not as keen on Elizabeth (or Liz / Lizzy).
Grace is lovely.

I'd go for Bethan Grace.

100% Grace for me 😊
Really dislike Elizabeth, don't mind Beth so much. But grew up being known as a short version of a longer name - always wished my parents just called me the shorter version and eventually changed it by deed poll.

Was that easy to do?

I feel the same about my name as an adult.
I have PTSD and associate the longer version of my name with traumatic times as only certain people used my full name.

Now I insist on being called the shorter version of my name, but I still get professionals calling me the longer version. It's surprising how something as simple as that can have such a huge impact on how I feel, but it's the flashbacks.

Do you find even though you have changed your name, do some people still assume you are called your full name? (If that makes sense).
I find even when I introduce myself as my shorter version, they still call me by the full name.

Workawayxx · 30/04/2023 08:30

Grace as not keen on the nn Beth. I like Libby as a nn for Elizabeth .

Clarabell77 · 30/04/2023 11:19

Congratulations on your new baby too - let us know what you decide!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 30/04/2023 11:23

I much prefer Elizabeth and all it's diminutives to Grace. I rally dislike Grace as a name, so do the three adults I know called Grace!

Cherrysherbet · 30/04/2023 11:26

Elizabeth. Not keen on Grace.

Congratulations op!

Kentlassie · 30/04/2023 11:27

Anna/ Annie is lovely.

TenThousandSpoons · 30/04/2023 11:29

I’d choose Grace.
I also like Beth but if you choose Elizabeth she could be Liz, Lizzie, Libby - you might not end up with Beth.

cptartapp · 30/04/2023 11:30

Elizabeth.
Grace is quite a name to 'live up to'. Certainly wouldn't suit everyone as a pp said.

BreviloquentBastard · 30/04/2023 11:35

I know three Elizabeth's and none of them use the diminutive their parents wanted them to, just as food for thought.

Two of them were supposed to be Beth's, one of them is now a Lizzie and one is an Eliza.

The third was supposed to be Liz or Lizzie and goes by Ellie, El or E instead.

I still prefer it to Grace, which I find very boring, but my bias there is the only Grace I know is the personification of the colour grey.

Sewingdufus · 30/04/2023 11:46

Elizabeth, lots of different short forms for her to choose from.

Not Grace, too many around and what if she isn’t graceful?

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 30/04/2023 13:04

I prefer Elizabeth.

FayCarew · 30/04/2023 13:37

Elizabeth.. Bethany is awful. Not keen on Beth

Grace is nice but a lot to live up to

Lampzade · 30/04/2023 13:50

Whatisityoucantface · 29/04/2023 22:18

Grace
The names go well together so you could
middle name one: Elizabeth Grace or Grace Elizabeth
If you call her Elizabeth she might decide to shorten it to something else eg Liza, Lizzie, Liz. If you call her Grace, she can’t shorten it

Good idea
Elizabeth Grace sounds lovely

DanceBeneathADiamondSky · 30/04/2023 14:06

Elizabeth (Beth)

ChickenSoupAndLokshen · 30/04/2023 14:11

Elizabeth but not Beth. It's wet.

custardbear · 30/04/2023 14:22

Grace

Theoldcuriosityshop · 30/04/2023 15:53

How about Louisa.
