Hello all,

We’re expecting a sibling for our DS Jude at the back end of the year..

Can you help us find another Gender Neutral (or at least non-traditional name) for them :) we’re unsure of the sex yet.

For a boy, we like:
Brody
Ellis
Sonny

and for a girl we like:
Dylan
Ezra (Ezzie)
Juno
Dylan
Ivy
(I also like Stevie!)

but me and my partner are struggling to land on one we both like!
Any additions would be much appreciated!

xx

Please don’t use a name for your child that is predominantly known as one gender. i.e. Ezra
I went to school with boys called Beverley and Shirley. Both had the piss taken out of them daily.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 30/04/2023 14:32

I wouldn't consider all of these (especially Ezra and Sonny) to be gender neutral...

Do you like Noa or Alex?

CurlewKate · 30/04/2023 14:33

Juno or Ivy. Don't give a girl a boy's name.

LimitMyScreenTime · 30/04/2023 17:13

I have a daughter called Brodie. I noticed it's on your boy's list

LimitMyScreenTime · 30/04/2023 17:17

I know boys and girls called Colby/Colbie

FayCarew · 30/04/2023 19:42

For a boy, we like:
Brody - The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. Just No.
Ellis - ok, but lots of El names currently popular
Sonny - too nicknamey

and for a girl we like:
Dylan - boy's name
Ezra (Ezzie) - boy's name
Juno - ok
Dylan - still a boy's name
Ivy - ok
(I also like Stevie!) - me too.

Jess

The unisex names I know are things like Lindsay, Ashley, Courtney, Lynn, Lee, Kim, Lesley/Leslie.
Younger ones I know are Cody, Casey, Charlie, Drew, Jay, Riley, Sandy, Stevie.

FayCarew · 30/04/2023 19:55

Sunny could be unisex. Short for Sunday?

I used to work with a female Esra, pronounced the same as Ezra. She was Turkish and I think it is more common there. I always think of it as more of a female name because she was the first one I knew.

I do like natural environment unisex names sucklh as Eden, Rowan, Aspen and Laurel.

Juno is lovely, but too similar to Jude.

mumonherphone · 30/04/2023 22:26

I like Ellis, Ivy and Dylan from your list.

Not sure I would call a girl Ezra.

Love Ashley for a boy, Sydney for a girl, Blake for a girl, Rowan and Robyn/Robin or Morgan for both genders.

Stephhh87 · 30/04/2023 22:30

I like stevie or jimi for a girl

skylar/skyler for either

KayEmAy · 01/05/2023 17:39

I tend to gravitate towards neutral names too! In particular on you list I love Ezra and Stevie for girls!

I do think calling a girl Ezra is like calling a girl Thomas. It just doesn't work. It's not a gender neutral name. It's for boys.

CurlewKate · 01/05/2023 22:15

Ok. Anyone with a boy called Ava, Rose or Elizabeth? No? How about Anna?

Restlessinthenorth · 01/05/2023 22:43

I know girls and boys who are Ellis. It's a great name Smile

AngryBirdsNoMore · 01/05/2023 22:47

I’m confused: is your last post saying that you want to deliberately give a boys name to a girl or vice versa? So you don’t necessarily want gender neutral names, you want names you can give to the opposite gender then they’re intended for?

because that just sounds like a recipe for confusion and bullying.

FatGirlSwim · 01/05/2023 23:48

Rowan
Eden
Sydney
Frankie
Freddie
Morgan
Jo(e)

MiniEggsAllYear · 01/05/2023 23:49

Frankie?

SleepingStandingUp · 01/05/2023 23:55

If you want gender neutral, I don't understand why you have a girl and a boys list? Jude is a genuinely neutral name but your girls list is is just a list of girls and boys names.

Eden is lovely and on a par with Jude in the neutral stakes.

Jude and Eden. ❤️

For an older gender neutral name, how about Evelyn?
