Georgie, Sophie, Emilia or Annie

How would you rank these names?

Georgie (full name Georgina, but I don’t think we’d use it that much)

Sophie

Emilia, shortened to Emmy

Annie (I feel like we need a longer name for this, but struggling - I like Annabel but Baby Annabell is already a key individual in DD1’s life, husband likes Anastasia but I worry that it sounds too Russian which might be a bit weird when we’re not!)

And any other suggestions very welcome!

If I’m honest, I really dislike the names Georgia and Sophie. But Emilia/Emmy is adorable and I’ve always liked Annie!

So I’d say 1) Annie, 2) Emilia, 3) Sophie, 4) Georgia!

emmathedilemma · 27/04/2023 09:34

In order of preference:
Anna nn Annie?
Sophie
Emilia (I'm not a fan of Emmy though)
Georgie (too cutesy for me)

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 27/04/2023 09:36

Sophie
Annie
Emmy (not Emilia though)
Georgie (really dislike)

rewilded · 27/04/2023 09:39

Emilia
Annie
Sophie
Georgie

WheelsUp · 27/04/2023 09:39

My preference would be
Annie
Sophie
Emilia
Georgie

Emmy is cute but I think Emilia would be called the more popular Amelia quite a lot. I would opt for Emma or Emily instead.

GoneTillNovember · 27/04/2023 09:41

Emilia is beautiful. Emmy is ok, I know an Emmeline shortened to Emmy and it's alright but I think Emilia is just gorgeous.

Annie is ok, seems to be popular amongst my friends as I know a few now. I love Annabel and Anastasia though.

Sophie is classic but really dull and over done I think. Hundreds of them

Georgie I don't like. Georgia is nicer. I know a Georgina shortened to Ginny and... Hmm. Yeah. Not keen. It's just so harsh sounding to my ears.

pinedpiper · 27/04/2023 09:47

All a bit meh and well used apart from Annie which is totally dated.

WheelsUp · 27/04/2023 09:48

I know a Georgia nicknames Gigi which is cute.

gluenotsoup · 27/04/2023 09:54

Sophie is a lovely name, really not overdone where I live.
I love the way Emelia looks written down, but don’t like Emmy and people hear Amelia which I don’t like.
Don’t like George, Georgie, or any variants, it’s dull and lumpy.
Annie is nice but I feel it needs to be more formal and then shortened. Anna? Annalise? Annabel?

TomatoSandwiches · 27/04/2023 09:58

Annie is lovely as it is imo but also like it as Anna.

FayCarew · 27/04/2023 10:06

Georgina/Georgie - like
Emilia is lovely but too close to Amelia - not keen on Emmy
Sophie - really like it but Sophia/Sofia too popular
Annie - fine, wouldn't use a longer name, Annabel(le), Anastasia etc too disney

FayCarew · 27/04/2023 10:07

I really can't see the point of naming a baby Anna then calling her Annie, I'd go with Ann/Anne.

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 27/04/2023 10:22

Georgie is the nicest. Definitely no mealy sounding names like Emelia.

Beaverbridge · 27/04/2023 10:26

Sophie.

FayCarew · 27/04/2023 10:29

The Emelia misspelling is awful.

Sofx · 27/04/2023 10:47

Emilia
Annie
Sophie
Georgie

Sofx · 27/04/2023 10:48

Also I adore Emmy, perfect nickname or I'd use it as a full name personally.

tobi21 · 27/04/2023 11:17

Emilia is my favourite. If you need a longer name for Annie how about Annalise?

salamithumbs · 27/04/2023 13:04

I love Sophie but appreciate it is very common. Annie is also nice, and Emilia is OK but agree that it would get mixed up with Amelia. Not a fan of Georgina or Georgie, sorry!

I think Anna and Anastasia are both fine for Annie! Other ideas:
Anneliese
Ariane/ Ariana
Julianne/juliana
Susanna
Eliana
Rosanne /Rosanna
Liliana
Alana

drpet49 · 27/04/2023 13:05

Sophie

fairycupcakes · 27/04/2023 16:01

Annika could work if you want Annie as nn? I also just like Anna too.

Gistbury · 27/04/2023 16:03

Annie 🥰🥰

FrownPrincess · 27/04/2023 16:15

Emilia is lovely but I don’t like Emmy at all - I would shorten it to Mimi/Millie
Sophie is a nice name, gentle sounding
Georgina too is a great name, and Georgie/Gigi are cute
Annie is one I really don’t like at all, too old-ladyish , whereas I like Anna which is much more elegant

Spring2008 · 27/04/2023 17:24

How about Savannah, with nn Annie?

doeandfawn · 27/04/2023 19:09
  1. Georgie sounds great to me, having the longer Georgina gives them the chance to pick a different nn later if they prefer which is always good.
  2. Emilia is very cutesy but hits as an Olivia type to me so reads as trendy
  3. Sophie
  4. Annie
