Georgie, Sophie, Emilia or Annie

How would you rank these names?

Georgie (full name Georgina, but I don’t think we’d use it that much)

Sophie

Emilia, shortened to Emmy

Annie (I feel like we need a longer name for this, but struggling - I like Annabel but Baby Annabell is already a key individual in DD1’s life, husband likes Anastasia but I worry that it sounds too Russian which might be a bit weird when we’re not!)

And any other suggestions very welcome!

I rank them in this order:

Sophie, lovely classic.

Emilia, though I'm not a fan of Emmy, and in general prefer Amelia with nn Amy or Mia.

Annie, if you're not keen on Annabelle could use Annalise, Marianne, Antonia, plenty of other options.

Georgie, prefer Georgia to Georgina.

Annie is lovely. I’d go Annalise as a full name. I really don’t like the others

Fordian · 27/04/2023 20:05

Cutting to the end. All great names, but Georgie should be Georgia, and Annie should be Anne, Annabelle or Anastasia.

  1. Annie
  2. Sophie
  3. Emilia
  4. Georgina

Sophie
Annie (Anna would be my top choice!)
Georgie

Emilia (dislike this for some reason)

Luredbyapomegranate · 28/04/2023 00:50

Georgina nn Georgie

Sophie is nice enough but Sophia is so overdone, as is Emilia. Annie seems to be going the same way, but if you do I’d go for Anna or Annalise as a full name. Annie is a bit housemaid. Anastasia is very Hello Mag (unless you are actually Russian).

Serena
Saskia
Cecilia
Cecily
Adela
Verity
Estella
Zoe
Ianthe
Verity

might be others

  1. Sophie - It's such a soft sound and really pretty! It is popular though
  2. Annie - I love Annie and I think it sounds fine on its own!
  3. Emilia - It's nice but a bit plain
  4. Georgie - I love Georgia, that would be number 1 but Georgie I dislike for some reason! Not a a fan of Georgina either.

Annie by far the best of those. I really like it. I would use it as is. Anastasia is fab also. Nancy a good Anne variation too. I like the Welsh name Anwen which could be shortened to Annie perhaps?

mathanxiety · 30/04/2023 04:53

I really only like Annie from your list.

I don't think anyone would think Anastasia is odd for a non Russian family. It's also a Greek name, fwiw - but it's well known and accepted in the English speaking world. Annabel is lovely too.

Other formal versions of Annie:
Anneliese
Annika
Anne/ Anna
Annarose
Anoushka
Anouk
Antonia
Antonella
Annika
Andrea
Antoinette
Annora

Georgie - love this
Annie - love this too. Wouldn't do Annabel at all, Anna is strong and lovely tho.
Sophie - fine.
Emilia - confusing name with too many variations imo

Thank you! Antonia/Annie is a good idea, I will run that by DH! He’s a big fan of Anastasia, which I also think is pretty - so reassurance on its global use is nice to hear.

And thanks to everyone who has replied with thoughts 😊
