Harris and?

Babynamehelp123 · 25/04/2023 19:29

We already have an almost 4 year old DS called Harris. We’re Scottish.. I got lots of negative comments about his name on here before we chose it but it’s one of the top names in Scotland now and is the name of a Scottish island (in case anyone doesn’t know).

I’m 37 weeks with baby number 2. We don’t know what we’re having yet and have a few possible boy options (mainly because they were on our list last time) but really nothing for a girl! I’d like if it tied in with the Scottish theme, doesn’t have to, but not the obvious other island names ideally! Thanks for any suggestions 👏🏼

Lewis? Ailsa, Isla, Skye, Shuna, ...

RoamingToaster · 25/04/2023 19:43

Iona is a nice name but only if it goes with your surname as it can have some issues.

Babynamehelp123 · 25/04/2023 19:48

@RoamingToaster I know the issues you mean 😂 but ours would work

Seton, Monroe, Rory, Finlay, Blair, Lachlan

I love Vaila for a girl, my ex told me it was a made up name because he’s an idiot so wouldn’t even consider it. It’s just so beautiful!

I think it's a lovely name, and would work well in other countries too. Well done on binning the idiot ex Grin

It was English people on MN and so many of them said it sounded like arse 🤔 literally never crossed my mind as I only think of it as the island so we went for it

OP- I too was wondering how on earth Harris sounds like arse??? Even if the H is dropped, that would still be Arris! I'm sorry people said that, but I'm sitting here trying to remotely see any connection with the words 🤔

Lovely name BTW

plugin12 · 25/04/2023 20:50

Millie was the first name that came to mind when I saw Harris and...

Wbeezer · 25/04/2023 20:50

My childhood home was called Vaila and I've always liked it but never had a girl 😭
I really like Mirren and think it goes with Harris.

Harris couldn't sound less like arse!

It's rhyming slang

'Aris is short for Aristotle rhymes with bottle - bottle and glass rhymes with arse.

It's pretty common here to use aris for arse.
