Girl name - middle name Iris Wendy

Middle names have been chosen in honour of late family members - I know “Wendy” isn’t the best of names but a close family member of this name died when I was young so want to include her.

So far we have shortlisted to:

Elsie

Cleo
Thea

I like these names but just don’t love them. We aren’t finding out if we’re having a boy or girl and the boy name has been long decided but girl we just can’t decide!

Name must be fairly short, don’t mind old fashioned but still “trendy”, although not too “out there” (yes, yes I am picky 🤣)

Surname begins with A and is fairly common!

P.s - apologies to anyone named Wendy!! It really suited my family member but I just wouldn’t choose it for a baby first name these days 😊

I like Eleanor Iris Wendy (goes with an A surname too). My mum was Wendy and her best friend Iris so this thread has made me smile.

Focus on the first name and how it sounds with the surname.

Cleo Addams sounds OK. I don't like Elsie or Thea. El- namees and Theo far too popular

I prefer Cleo from your list. Not so keen on the other two. Really like lots of the other ideas from PPs. Also - I actually love the name Wendy!

I really like Iris Wendy as middle - seems unique
that said, if you want to follow naming rules, you can't use -a ending name - if you surname starts with A, something like Mara turns in Maraadams and kind of slurs. That said I would break this rule, cause you also have middle names ending with -y and -s rules out some names such as Louise or Sophie, cause Wendy doesn't flow with -y ending names, while Iris runs into -s ending names. In fact, I would go for name that doesn't flow, cause very little name flows with your middles and surname.

I know you also said short names, but might be easier to pick longer name that ends in consonant rather than short name - short names ending in consonant are in short supply - most of them end in -a or -y

I would also suggest Wendy Iris instead of Iris Wendy, Wendy Iris flows better cause of accents, and I think Wendy is wonderful name, but I understand why some might not like it - it's very dated, but that's not bad thing - it makes name tested and well-known.

@dwightschrutebeets my first thought there was that I wonder if the name will come back with the Wendy’s American diners popping up everywhere, and then I thought, I hope people aren’t naming their babies after a diner 🤣🙈

@goldenfoliage I think that’s the problem, our boy name flows very well, and none of the girl names seem to flow so well, now you’ve said it, that’s down to our middle names. But I think we have to keep them - one is a family member of my other half that died last year and one is a close family member of mine who died when I was young, so they both mean a lot to us both! It does make it more tricky to get a flowing name but it will be worth it if we can find a name that goes well and includes the middle names!
The short name rule comes from my other half as he is dyslexic, but I think once you learn to spell something like your child’s name, it probably sticks….I would hope, but then I’m not dyslexic so can’t say if it works like that or not!

Cab Iris be the first name? Iris Wendy X flows nicely in itself

otherwise I would probably want to avoid an “ee” ending so it wasn’t mirrored in Wendy.

I think for flow you're best off with a 3 syllable first name with those middle names, as contrast is nice. Cecily Iris Wendy as suggested above eg. flows well
