Laurie or Joe?

Which do you prefer for a boy?

We're not keen on Laurence or Joseph, so in both cases the shortened name would be on the BC.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Names are so subjective - personally I wouldn’t choose either but if that were my only options I’d go with Joseph (full name on BC) and choose to name him Joe day to day

IfDreamsWereWings · 18/04/2023 16:31

Joe

MargauxM · 18/04/2023 16:38

Joe 👍

GBoucher · 18/04/2023 16:39

Laurence nn Laurie. The name Laurie conjures up visions of Timothee Chalamet. Mmm...I really wouldn't go for Laurie or Joe. They're not real names.

PickledScrump · 18/04/2023 17:11

Joe

Bugger, better rename my DS 😂

bunnyrabbitsandbutterflies · 18/04/2023 17:14

Joe.

Bluevelvetsofa · 18/04/2023 17:22

Of course they’re real names.

I like both, but Joe edges it.

GoodVibesHere · 18/04/2023 17:26

I prefer Laurie but would go for Laurence.

Joe is maybe a bit too plain, sorry. It's such a personal decision though.

SwedishEdith · 18/04/2023 17:28

I'd have the full names because that's what they'll probably be known by anyway. But I love Joseph and Lawrence so would give them that option.

toottootpipip · 18/04/2023 17:29

I have a Joey (on birth certificate) so that would get my vote Smile

idontevenknowanyonecalledblurb · 18/04/2023 17:31

Oh Laurence nn Laurie is one of my favourites. Ever since little women!

AcrobaticCardigan · 18/04/2023 17:33

I don’t mind them as nicknames but as full first names - both horrid!

ourflagmeansdeath · 18/04/2023 19:03

Laurie is honestly really lovely. I don't mind Joey but Joe sounds too short (if that's how you're pronouncing it).

I didn't know my name wasn't real!

I'm biased but got for Laurie, Joe is dare I say it, pretty common. I know like 5 Joe's.

ozymandiusking · 18/04/2023 19:13

Was Laurie the name used for the neighbour in "Little Women"? Anyway I like it, and would quite happily use it.

QueenAstrid · 18/04/2023 19:17

Joe

KirstenBlest · 18/04/2023 19:17

Joe

Sandysandwich · 18/04/2023 20:38

Joe,
I like both but my son was friends with a Laurie in reception and he insisted for years that he was called "Lorry, like a bin lorry"
Only found out the kid was actually Laurie in year 2

Cheekyandfreaky · 18/04/2023 20:41

I thought this was a 'Little Women' thread! Laurie is lovely!

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 18/04/2023 21:14

Laurence or Lawrence known as Laurie / Lawrie is one of my all-time favourites but if you won’t consider using the longer form in any circumstances then Joe. Laurie is firmly established as a girls’ name in its own right in the US and is growing in popularity for girls in the UK.

Would you consider the French form, Laurent?

Yes, his name was Theodore Laurence.

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 18/04/2023 21:29

Laurie

Longdarkcloud · 18/04/2023 21:51

Or you could go for the really simple Jo as in Jo Grimmond the politician

greyhairnomore · 18/04/2023 21:58

Joe or Joey.
