How many Evies do you know?!

So grateful for all the responses on my previous thread.
To further this - and hopefully help to narrow things down further for us - I wanted to ask specifically how any Evies do you know? If you’re happy to share your region (north, south etc) that would be great.
Thanks so much to those who already answered this as part of my previous thread!

Thanks in advance!

Name changed to comment on this as incredibly outing. I have an Evee. Ever since I watched the mummy as a little girl, I wanted to call my daughter Evie. I wasn't sure whether I would use Evie as a full name or something longer and shorten.

In the year I got pregnant everyone was calling their girls Evie and I hate the idea of a popular name as I have one and was one of 3/4 in a very small class but my name is spelt differently so ok if you write it down. I also hated this as I constantly have to spell it to people and repeat as they always switch letters about.

Anyway, long story short she became Evee because DP is a Pokémon lover and it means it had the same ending as my name. It was DPs "fault" that she was spelt this way and I hated him for a good week because of it but actually it's great.

We make joke about her temper making her a flareon and when she is caught in the rain she will become a VaporeRon. It's the name that keeps on giving. Some of her friends call her Eve.

But the Pokémon is Eevee?!

Why didn't you go with Eevee?

I mean personally I think it would be ridiculous but I think Dd and I are lucky this wasn't the case Blush

namechange2344 · 14/04/2023 09:16

@ZoyaTheDestroyer yes. He did spell it that way when we discussed it when I was pregnant but luckily wasn't that silly once she was around!

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 14/04/2023 09:17

So did he add the ‘ee’ ending without your knowledge when he registered the birth?

I know of a few and sorry OP, find this to be an awful, sickly name.

West Mids.

I’m not sure op was asking for your personal opinion on the name just how many you knew.

i hope my daughter Evie (14) doesn’t read this 😜

TenThousandSpoons · 14/04/2023 09:24

I only know of 2 Evies, 1 age 13, 1 in year 1.

The 13 year old is the only Evie in her year (240 kids). I know 3 girls called Eva age 14-15 too.

LudicrouslyCapaciousBag · 14/04/2023 09:43

Lots, especially once you include the Evelyns, Evangelines etc who go by Evie. Probably a dozen under the age of 15?

@namechange2344 I suspect your partner knew perfectly well how to spell Evie. He played a blinder on you there!

1 child around 10. South East. Lovely name

Cos she is kidding herself. There a whole pile of people on this thread saying Eva / Evie etc are all just the same blob that merge into one and if someone can't see how that's perceived then they are deluding themselves when multiple people are saying that exact thing!!!

She literally said that there are no children with similar names. You said the names are similar, she didn't say that they weren't. She said her daughter is the only Eva, there is no Eve, Evie, Ava, Evelyn or any other similar sounding name: What that means, is that she thinks the names are similar. You are having a fight with yourself, it's hilarious.

There are no children with similar names.

Just all the ones running around the country mentioned on this thread.

She lives in a bubble she will never escape?

Ok then.

I hope you are joking, your poor daughter, original spellings are annoying for the person at the best of times, but that is just going to come across as a spelling mistake forever.

When you're in a hole and all that....
So the OP asks, how many and where. A poster then posts, that it's odd as they are supposed to be everywhere, but she doesn't know any. She answers the question, and you think that she's kidding herself. If I tell you that I know nobody called Mavis, and yet there are, statistically, people out there named Mavis, would you then post to tell me that I am kidding myself about not knowing anybody called Mavis?

saffy2 · 14/04/2023 11:33

6, ranging from 16 down to babies. Three just in my daughters preschool class. South east.

No. I just think it's bonkers to talk about the name like this as if you live in a cave!

Or to simply ignore what others say about the name blending into one if you are keen to not pick something over used or likely to date badly.

No in a hole about it.

I just think you are totally blinkered if you can't see that it's a trend name and at some point in life you are going to come across a whole pile of other people the same age as you with the same name.

If you are happy with the clone / rather dull perception others WILL have of it, that's fine but don't kid yourself that isn't how others see it and insist it's a distinct name.

doomkittycleo · 14/04/2023 11:51

My daughter (aged 5) is Evelyn, but we sometimes shorten it to Evie.

I came across quite a lot of Evie’s in my previous job role (working with school aged kids), but other than my daughter I only personally know of one other Evie (also shortened from Evelyn).

I don’t personally know any other adults with the name.

I’m in the north west.

namechange2344 · 14/04/2023 12:05

@darjeelingrose nope not a joke. I'm aware of original spellings as I have one (it's legit but not English) and as previously said have to spell it a lot and multiple times so was frustrated when I knew DD would spend her life doing the same.

That being said, almost everyone spells it right and no one sees it as a spelling mistake (and I don't care if they do) Just an alternative spelling. There were 5 others with the same name born in her year so she isn't the only.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 14/04/2023 12:13

@RedToothBrush, where are you even getting this from? Are you still talking about me and my comments, because they have gone so far off tangent that I'm no longer sure.

Or to simply ignore what others say about the name blending into one if you are keen to not pick something over used or likely to date badly.

I never said I was keen to not pick something overused. In fact I specifically said we were well aware that she might be one of many girls called Eva or a slightly different but similar sounding name like Evie, Eve, Ava, Ivy, Aoife, Evelyn etc. But we didn't care because it was a name we both loved and agreed on, and one I had loved for about 15 years.

Imo, but clearly not yours, Eva is a not a trend name and will not date badly. I think Evie is, along with many other cutsie names, and even Ava to a certain extent. But Eve, Eva and Evelyn are classic, timeless names that have been around for generations. Your problem is that your small brain 'can't tell the difference' because they 'blend into a blob'. That says more about you.

...at some point in life you are going to come across a whole pile of other people the same age as you with the same name.

I didn't say this wasn't the case I know it is a popular name, along with other similar sounding names, and no doubt we will come across other people with the same name, but that wasn't the question. The question was how many Evies do you know now. And I answered that I don't know anyone called Evie, but my own DD is called Eva and I know one other Eva. The very fact that I linked them shows I know they are similar sounding names. It's not like I said I don't know any Evies but my DD is called Clementine.

And no, I don't live in a hole. I'm just stating the fact that despite this and many other names being 'so popular', in my DD's class and school, she is the only Eva and there is no one else with one the Ev- names or anything similar as we assumed would probably be the case.

I also have a name that was supposedly everywhere in the 70s/80s but I never had someone with the same name in my class throughout my school years either. I've met a fair few since but so what?

If you are happy with the clone / rather dull perception others WILL have of it, that's fine but don't kid yourself that isn't how others see it and insist it's a distinct name.

Literally could not care less. Why would I? People can judge/perceive the name however they want...it says more about them. And once more, I have never claimed that it is a distinct name. I said it was a beautiful, timeless name and I stand by that.

I don't really get the fascination of rare names. There are too many of us to all be different and I never looked at a Sarah and thought how disgustingly common. Jessica was the most common name in my year of birth and I went to school with one

I have looked at Sarah and thought 'god that's utterly depressingly boring' though. So some people really do think like this because I'm one of them.

I feel for the Evie clones and the Oliver drones.

I don't think you have to have a unique name, but with the sheer number of names available I do find the level of conformity really depressing.

There is a happy medium in between.

Yes but you are quite clearly a bit name obsessed. Most people on this board are (including me). The majority of people in real life really don’t care this much about what anyone is called!!
