Girl name is set.
Boy name please help me and DP to settle on either Francis or Franklin
I prefer the classic Francis but DP put off by ‘wet’ comments. DP prefers Franklin but I think it is very surnamey.
We want the nn Frank/ie so it will be one of these names but please help us

Just call him Frankie? Out of the two though, I prefer Franklin.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 13/04/2023 09:19

Frances is awful sorry I'd do Franklin or just Frankie

amoretti · 13/04/2023 09:33

Sorry but both names are awful

Slimjimtobe · 13/04/2023 09:37

I’d just go with Frank

MyBloodyMaryneedsmoreTabasco · 13/04/2023 09:44

I don't like Francis (wet) or Franklin (sounds odd) and I really do not like Frankie. Just go with Frank
Frank is cool, Frankie has quite a different vibe.

IsaiditwasLighthearted · 13/04/2023 12:00

They're both bleh but Frank is a cool name.

Kentlassie · 13/04/2023 12:05

Frank is much better!

Frank or Francis for the name and Frankie a nick name when small.
Frankie is not necessarily a great nick name for an adult.
Would you like your father to be called Frankie?
Franklin is best known as an American surname.

Carsarelife · 13/04/2023 16:54

@GBoucher yes I just think of it as very feminine. Can't help it. Never known any males with that name

LysHastighed · 13/04/2023 17:00

Francis. Franklin sounds American and a bit too much of a momentary trend while Francis is a classic.
It’s surprising that people think Francis is feminine given Francis of Assisi, Francis Bacon etc.
Franco is not a great suggestion unless you need something to go with siblings Pinochet and Stalin.

Princessstefanie · 13/04/2023 21:10

I would just use Frankie

Lovely name!

MargotBamborough · 13/04/2023 21:26

Francis.

Francis. DP needs to get comfortable with 'wet' comments, regardless of name. Not all boys come out date devil and boisterous. Some come out cautious, thoughtful and kind. Thank Christ. Having these qualities does not make a boy lesser.

Mine is a daredevil, boisterous and also kind. Those traits aren't mutually exclusive!

.. Love the nickname Frankie either way, op.

PickledScrump · 13/04/2023 21:44

Out of those choices Franklin, I find Francis awful. But just Frank nn Frankie is much better.

Curseofthenation · 13/04/2023 22:13

Franklin.

Francis is just such a perfect target name for bullies. No doubt if he is on the more sensitive side he could end up nicknamed Frannie.

ODFOx · 13/04/2023 22:41

Another vote for Francis. Franklin is dreadful. Sorry to your DH but hell no.

schnubbins · 13/04/2023 22:50

Francis

Why would he be a target for bullies? Interested to hear if anyone with a Francis has been bullied because of his name

Yep Francis by a mile. A lovely classic name that won’t date. Sounds sophisticated.
Franklin sounds a bit trendy and try hard. And might date asking with all the other ‘old man names’ as I call them. Alfie, Archie, Ronnie, Reggie etc

Thatbloomindog · 14/04/2023 09:00

I don’t think a target for bullies. Bullies will find something if they want to. They aren’t going to single out someone over a name.

my mum and dad were determined mine would be bullied because they didn’t have top ten names. And very usual ones. But they haven’t ever been. It’s not the 1980’s and children have a wider range of names these days.

I only know 2 male Francis. One was the ultimate cool guy in school. Very sporty and all girls loved him and very popular with the boys too. The older was an older and very distinguished gentlemen. Neither could be described was ‘wet’ .

imnotthatkindofmum · 14/04/2023 09:07

My dads name is Francis. He was a firefighter for 30 years. Definitely not wet and no one ever called him that. He was also a bouncer on the side.

He has gentle qualities too, just making a point that your kid will be who he is regardless of name.

Also dad has always been Frank or Franky most of the time.
