Howard or Douglas

I am not yet pregnant but DH and I are trying we would name a girl Felicity Carys Tesni but are undecided between Howard or Douglas for a boy as a first name. Middle names would be Ian James and both middle names are honouring. Douglas was DH’s DF name DF died when DH was 7 months old of cancer. Howard is a name DH loves. I like both and we can’t decide between them. What do you think?

Douglas

I’m not mad on Howard although I know a very nice one.

Douglas. By a long way. A fine, strong name

Topseyt123 · 02/04/2023 01:36

Douglas for me. I'm not keen on Howard.

Judgyjudgy · 02/04/2023 01:38

Both terrible, old man names!

octoberfarm · 02/04/2023 02:19

Douglas, definitely.

mrshenny · 02/04/2023 02:22

Douglas, Dougie for nickname or Dougie as the name.

garlictwist · 02/04/2023 05:27

Howard. Howie would be a cute nickname. Douglas is awful b

BlueKaftan · 02/04/2023 05:31

Douglas and let any nicknames happen naturally.

MarshaMelrose · 02/04/2023 05:32

It's difficult. I loved Howard Donald in Take That. But then I have a very lovely friend called Douglas (Dougie). It's a tough one.

Howard Ian James

Howard Scott Douglas.
James Ian Douglas.

Neither

Ellmau · 02/04/2023 08:00

Howard is horribly dated.

Douglas is a bit, but not nearly as much, and with the family connection I think it works.

junebirthdaygirl · 02/04/2023 08:47

Douglas James is lovely. And so nice to honour his Dad.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 02/04/2023 08:48

Douglas, especially given the family significance. I have met a couple of little Doug / Dougie / Douglases in the last couple of years. I think it’s at the beginning of a comeback.

midsomermurderess · 02/04/2023 09:08

Douglas. I’m in Scotland and it’s a normal, fairly popular name. Dougie (pn Doogie) a common shortening.

KirstenBlest · 02/04/2023 12:47

I prefer Douglas, but they're both fine.

drumandthebass · 02/04/2023 12:49

I know two dogs with both of those names.

Twoinapod · 02/04/2023 12:50

Douglas definitely. Howard is not good

MrsSkylerWhite · 02/04/2023 12:50

Douglas

Newusernameaug · 02/04/2023 12:51

douglas is a nicer name and it has meaning.

Ive met one Howard in my life, he used to choose me for ball room dancing parter and would blow his nose and look at it in his handkerchief so I’ve always hated the name since I was 12!
