Cara, Lucy, May, Louisa, Marie.

I'm stuck between these names.
Can you can tell me which you'd prefer to be called?

Cara

Cara or Lucy. What about Cora? I love that name!

I did think of Cora but it makes me think of apple cores. Brain problem.

Also considered Clara but prefer definitely prefer Cara.

Lucy. It's a lovely, classic name and suits all ages, I think.
I quite like May, too.

May but only if the child is born in May.
I also really like Cara.

Louisa is lovely.

Cara or Lucy. Really don't like Marie (I think it's subconscious association to someone I didn't like at school!)
Louisa and May are ok but there are lots of Mae/May though seems to be 2nd half of a double-barreled name more often than not so probably not really used that much in reality.

Cara is a beautiful and underused name. I know only one. I find the other names really bland in comparison. As already suggested, Cora is also lovely.

Would you be put off Cara knowing that Clara has recently entered the Top 100 and is growing in popularity and Cora is headed that way. Not to mention Zara and Lara are both in the Top 100 most used names atm?

I say this because I love Eve but am put off by Eva Ava Evie etc being really popular

And because I don't want DD to be one of many with similar names.

I like all of them - maybe see how they sound with the baby's surname? Are you choosing a middle name as well?

Love Lucy and May, quite like Cara and Louisa (but really like Louise), not so keen on Marie, but I think that's just because I happen to have known a couple of horrible ones. I have exactly the same problem as you with Cora!

Cara. I really like Louisa too but I prefer is spelled Luisa.

Lucy. I also love Lara, which is softer than Cara to me.

For me personally, no it wouldn't. To me Cara and Clara have a different vibe...love Cara, very meh about Clara/Zara/Lara. But I know it would bother plenty of people so that's for you to decide.

But then we chose the name Eva for our DD1. We were well aware of how popular it had become and that she could be 'one of many Eva/Ava/Evie /Eve etc' but when it was the only name we both loved and agreed on... And btw, she's 10 now and the only Eva in her class and year (of 120 children). No Ava/Evie/Evelyn/Aoife/Eve either!

I would pronounce these names differently though.

I would pronounce Louisa as Loo-eez-a, and Luisa as Loo-eess-a, with a definite 'ss' sound rather than a soft 'zz'.
