Really stuck with girls names.
Already have a Noah. Picked Jacob for another boy.
Stuck on girls names.....Opinions welcome on current ideas:

  • Adelaide (Makes me think of lovely sandy beaches, sunny, idyllic)
  • Juliet (son loves this one)
  • Summer (Speaks for itself)
  • Hermione (heard this recently, sounded nice. Maybe top Harry Potter. Too likely to be shortened?)
  • Iris (Greek and means Rainbow, but maybe too older lady?)
  • Eliana (related to Greek word Helios meaning Sun)
  • Olympia (bit out there, but something very attractive about this)
  • Lyra
  • Athena (very strong name, too much to live up to?)
Not really keen on biblical girls names. Quite like the Greek/Spanish/Summer influence. Thank you!

Are either of you Greek / Spanish?

DuchessOfSausage · 21/03/2023 10:46

Adelaide - dislike, too long, don't like Addie
Juliet - fine, don't like it said as Julie-ET
Summer - dislike
Hermione - too Harry Potter and too long
Iris - maybe too older lady
Eliana - too vowelly, will be another Ellie
Olympia - ok
Lyra - don't like and too samey with all the Lily, Luna, Lila, Lara type names
Athena - best from your list

BooksAndHooks · 21/03/2023 10:49

Juliet from that list.

I like Juliet, Hermione, Olympia and Lyra

How about Juliet Olympia?

SamanthaR1 · 21/03/2023 11:09

I really like Adelaide but I am not sure about the short version of it. Not fond of Addie for some reason. And I absolutely LOVE Eliana and Lyra. Should definitely choose one out of these two!

Rauha · 21/03/2023 11:11

I love Adelaide and Iris

Mumofgirls2017 · 21/03/2023 11:16

love most of your options, although lukewarm about Adelaide.

id go for Lyra, Iris or eliana with Noah. Would also suggest Delilah, Lydia, Jemima, Eliza, Lucy, Lily, Alana, Abigail, esme, Isabel, Phoebe, Isla, Ava, eva

Are either of you Greek / Spanish?

All of these are names which are and have been regularly used in the English speaking world for years.

Sandysandwich · 21/03/2023 11:42

I really like Juliet, Eliana and Athena

Adeline
Oriana
Hestia

Twoinapod · 21/03/2023 18:47

I like Juliet and Eliana. I loved the name Iris but every one I know has been named that because it means rainbow and they are rainbow babies so people may assume that she is also a rainbow baby.

Notellinganyone · 21/03/2023 18:51

I love Athena and Olympia - really strong names - I’m Greek though! Also like Iris. Not keen on Juliet although love Julia. Given that your boys names are both biblical how about Hester, Martha or Mary?

ourflagmeansdeath · 21/03/2023 18:52

Adelaide - I quite like it actually, much nicer than Addison
Juliet - This is a beautiful name
Summer - Think it's nice and I do love the sound of Noah and Summer
Hermione - This is so beautiful, I adore it so much. The HP connection isn't a bad one but you'll def get a ton of comments
Iris - I don't like this for some reason
Eliana - It's okay
Olympia - Heavily dislike
Lyra - LOVE Lyra, one of my favourite girls names!! So beautiful
Athena - So lovely and gorgeous. It def has a reputation so there could be worry for that I suppose

Favourite is Lyra followed by Hermione and Athena. The ones that would go best with Noah would be Juliet, Summer or Lyra.

PurpleAirGuitar · 21/03/2023 18:54

I love Iris and Adelaide, like Juliet and Summer, could possibly grow to like Lyra and Eliana.

CastleTower · 21/03/2023 18:54

Adelaide or Iris would be my choice. Lyra is also lovely, but there's always a risk to naming a child after a character when the books are still being written!

lv884 · 21/03/2023 19:25

Iris, Juliet and Summer are my favourite and in that order.

I know an Athena but she is Greek so it doesn’t sound as much as a statement.

I don’t think most will associate Iris with being Greek, nor did I know it meant rainbow before I read it on Mumsnet. I think it’s a beautifully simple floral name first. I really loved it but my husband wasn’t so keen unfortunately. He had no reason why.

I also love Juliet and the nickname Jools is very cool.

OiaBougainvillea · 21/03/2023 19:32

Juliet and Eliana are my favourites from your list.
Suggestions if you'd like some more:

Elena
Thea
Aria
Ophelia

Here are my thoughts:

Eliana and Iris are VERY popular atm. I know a few and although they are lovely names, that would put me off.

I love Juliet and Summer is cute, but I get the feeling you love Adelaide. So go with Adelaide!

FluffyTrousers · 21/03/2023 20:23

How about:
Calliope
Cassiopeia
Phaedra
Antigone
Ophelia

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 21/03/2023 20:35

I think Juliet or Iris go best with Noah.

Ada is used as a nn for Adelaide btw.

MapleSyrupSweet · 21/03/2023 21:22

Xanthe!

crosstalk · 21/03/2023 21:38

Love Xanthe.

Ruth and Judith match your DC's names, to say nothing of Sarah or Saira, Miriam etc. Presume Hepzibah won't be on your list.

Riverlee · 21/03/2023 21:50

Adelaide - lovely name, due a revival
Juliet - ok
Summer - not keen
Hermione - ok
Iris - ok
Eliana - ok
Olympia - not keen
Lyra - dislike
Athena - not sure

Riverlee · 21/03/2023 21:51

Suggestions
Maria
Helena
Cecilia
Philomena

PropellerDance · 21/03/2023 22:24

Adelaide - probably the best on this list

Juliet - meh

Summer - nice

Hermione - nah

Iris - the whole old name becoming modern name thing is getting popular now so will probably be a few Iris'

Eliana - nope. Will be misspelled and mispronounced and you'll constantly have people asking if you're Greek.

Olympia - no. Comes across as try-hard

Lyra - no.

Athena - again too try-hard, you're raising an English child and giving her the name of a Greek goddess 😬

Luredbyapomegranate · 21/03/2023 22:42

Adelaide - nice enough, quite popular - I think Adela is nicer
Juliet - nice, popular
Summer - gone a bit south with overuse
Hermione - it’s ok
Iris - lovely but been done to death. Lois, Ines, Carys, Annis might be others
Eliana - she’ll be one of a zillion Ellies
Olympia - I love it!

Lyra - nice and popular but combined with all the Lara/Luna/Leah/Lila/Lena/Leilas it does all blur
Athena - it’s great, and modestly popular so not too much to carry
