What are your honest thoughts about the name Inès? What comes to mind when you hear it - what connotations?

I am French but my husband is English, btw. We live in the UK.
It would be pronounced Ee-nez.

Thank you.

I like it. A little quirky but not too out there. Makes me think of someone arty.

Orcubed · 19/03/2023 15:42

I love it, was on my list

Lostmarblesfinder · 19/03/2023 15:43

Absolutely love it. I know one ROI no problem pronouncing.

Rauha · 19/03/2023 15:44

It's beautiful

SertralineAndTherapy · 19/03/2023 15:45

I would probably assume that it's Spanish and spell it either Inés or Inez, which might be an issue?

Julen7 · 19/03/2023 15:45

I would also assume Spanish

Sunnysunbun · 19/03/2023 15:48

Inès de la fressange style icon and super model.
I love the name it’s simple and beautiful.

I taught a lovely boy with that name. I've always liked it

Twizbe · 19/03/2023 16:03

I went to school with an Inez. She wasn't the nicest girl on the planet but the name is cool.

xJoy · 19/03/2023 16:05

I like it.

Sarahcoggles · 19/03/2023 16:06

Pretty name but people would assume it was Spanish and it would always be pronounced wrong.

evtheria · 19/03/2023 16:09

Sounds gorgeous and ages well (ie suits a little girl, a teen and a grown woman!)

ancientgran · 19/03/2023 16:11

Love it.

FlounderingFruitcake · 19/03/2023 16:13

I know so many. It’s one of the most popular name for girls at DD’s school and I know younger nursery age ones too. It’s definitely having a moment.

NameChange30 · 19/03/2023 16:15

I love it so much that I have one Smile we're a FR/EN family too. We've had a lot of compliments on it. I tell people the pronunciation rhymes with "finesse". We spell it Inès (the French way) and some people get the accent wrong but we don't mind too much.

IglesiasPiggl · 19/03/2023 16:19

It's a strong yet elegant name. I love it.

Really? Hmm
In the latest ONS rankings it's at #449.
Perhaps your area has a very high number of European families? There's a reasonably high number of Europeans where I live (English city) but I haven't come across any other girls called Inès. It's hardly popular across the whole country.

Blastosis · 19/03/2023 16:21

Inès de la Fressange- the style icon of my youth: endlessly elegant, cool, beautiful, which might be why I like the French version better than Spanish Iñez. My only reservation would be that your DD would be forever having to explain or correct the spelling and/or pronunciation- how would you feel about people calling her ‘eyenz’?

My first thought to!

MeanderingGently · 19/03/2023 16:25

It's a beautiful name, it was the name of my Italian penfriend many eons ago, I went out to Italy to meet her and stay with her family (in the days when folk had penfriends and not online friends!!) It's an Italian name when spelled without the accent (but pronounced the same way) but I've never heard it since.
Go for it!

I like it lovely choice.

There's no eñe over the n in Spanish Inés.

Inés Sastre, model, must be 50 by now, at least.
