Tess. I really like it. But I'm worried that 'testicle' would be a gift to people wanting to be mean to her. Would you have thought of it? Please tell me what you think!

Thanks

Tess of the D’Urbervilles…beautiful

LuckyThatMyBreastsAreSmallAndHumble · 09/03/2023 07:11

Is Tess not short for Teresa?

Beaniesmumsie · 09/03/2023 07:12

I know a Tess. I think she would have mentioned if people routinely called her ‘testicle’. It’s about context as much an anything else and Tess is recognised as an unproblematic name in the context of a girl or woman. And don’t people mostly say ‘balls’, colloquially for that bit of a body? Do kids below a certain age even know the proper word?

WHY would she mention it?!

WordtoYoMumma · 09/03/2023 07:13

Lol I have a friend called Tess I'm totally gonna call her Testical now 😂

I don’t like Tess or Tessa. Makes me think of when people say two tonne Tess/Tessa referring to someone being overweight

Yes I thought this too.
Also makes me think of Tessa Saunderson. But young people won't.

Smileyoriley · 09/03/2023 07:15

I'd assume it was an abbreviation of Teresa

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 09/03/2023 07:16

I love Tess, DD was nearly a Tess (went with a different one syllable name in the end), but oddly I don't like Tessa at all.

Testicle wouldn't enter my mind.

monicagellerbing · 09/03/2023 07:22

Ten tonne Tess

It's awful OP

Thighdentitycrisis · 09/03/2023 07:32

I like it. We had a dog named Tessa/Tess. I believe it’s short for Theresa?

Cinnamon23 · 09/03/2023 11:50

I know an adult Tess. Not once have I made the association to ‘testicle’.

You don’t have anything to worry about, it’s a great name.

xprincessxjanetx · 11/03/2023 22:49

I don't like it at all I'm afraid, although Tess Tickle didn't initially cross my mind.

Viviennemary · 11/03/2023 22:55

I prefer Tessa. But both are ok names.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 12/03/2023 03:38

Tess is lovely and absolutely fine as a name in its own right.

No one, but no one, wants to be called Theresa or Teresa or Therese. Hideous names.

Thanks you speedy bunch! Yes, I like Tessa too, and that does get around the issue...though there is something about the simplicity of Tess..

I have a Tessa. A bit nicer than Tess I think, plus people can still call her Tess for short if they chose. She also answers to professor Tessa and Tessie Bear but never to testicle as far as I’m aware.

Abcdefgh1234 · 12/03/2023 07:02

Sorry op! Horrible name
