We really like all these names, I know the first 2 are a little more unusual so perhaps not to everyone's taste..

We like madeleine too but slight reservation being connected madeleine mcann who is back in the news a lot again recently!

Help 😊😊😊

Any thoughts/preferences?

I love Madeleine. What about Evangeline?

ChildminderMum · 02/03/2023 18:11

Isn't Adeline the more typical spelling?

Yes and it's a beautiful name.

Misslings · 02/03/2023 18:13

I love Madeleine. The association wouldn’t put me off. It’s about time the name was used again, it’s beautiful.

Whataretheodds · 02/03/2023 18:20

Is Adelyn pronounced with a 'Lynn' sound at the end? If not, Adeline/Adaline is much nicer IMO.

Adeleine I would assume rhymes with Madeleine/Madeline.

Ahh blimey you are absolutely right, thank you for highlighting that!

Hopefully that wouldn't become a problem if we choose that name and it being spelt incorrectly.

Imo Madeline is only unusable if your surname is McCann Are you wanting the -line or -lynn pronunciation ?
I prefer Adeline to Adelyn (didn't even know that it was a name)

Thank you for the suggestion, although I struggle pronouncing this, a bit too much of a mouthful for me! 🙊

I prefer Madeleine but not the biggest fan. What about Adelaide?

LlynTegid · 02/03/2023 18:29

None of them. If it was not for the McCanns I would choose Madeleine.

Adeleine I would assume rhymes with Madeleine/Madeline.

I initially preferred adelyn (pronounced exactly as you say with a Lynn at the end) but I'm now warming towards adeleine I'm just not sure!

I would pronounce it exactly like I would for madeleine but without the M!

Please let me know if anyone else would pronounce it differently!

Thank you for the suggestion, although I'm not a big fan of adelaide! 🥰

Sleepless1096 · 02/03/2023 18:52

Adeline is lovely.

RosaBonheur · 02/03/2023 18:55

I like Madeleine.

IntentionalError · 02/03/2023 18:59

Madeleine is a lovely name, and the inevitable association with the missing child will inevitably fade over time, but I still wouldn’t use it if I had a Mc / Mac surname.

mathanxiety · 02/03/2023 19:01

Madeleine is my favourite.

Adelaide and Adelyn make me think anyone saying the.names has adenoid problems, both because of similar initial sounds and all the Ds.

mathanxiety · 02/03/2023 19:03

Autocorret takes the blame for Adelyn.

Should be Adeleine.

snazzlealpaca · 02/03/2023 19:04

I like both the names. Spelling wise I would go for Madelaine and Adeline. I would pronounce Adeline as Adder-line as in washing line, which is how my relative with the name pronounced it.

daisypond · 02/03/2023 19:07

Madeleine is my favourite by far. It’s a fab name. The name by itself wouldn’t ever think of Madeleine McCann.

pumpkintits · 02/03/2023 19:09

I have an Adeline, so obviously I'm biased and think it's a beautiful name 😁

We get a lot of compliments on her name. Love Madeleine too.

Misslings · 02/03/2023 19:13

@daisypond

Particularly when you say it with a different surname.

itstrue · 02/03/2023 19:18

I have a Madeleine - no one ever mentions McCann in relation to her name

ourflagmeansdeath · 02/03/2023 20:08

Madeleine's gorgeous, I have one so I am biased! But nobody ever mentions anything and she's 14 now - I think it's just a well known name in itself, without the McCann association.

Twoinapod · 02/03/2023 20:13

What pronunciation would you use? I’ve heard both Adeline and madeleine being pronounced as either line or lynn

MyLittlePonyWellies · 02/03/2023 20:14

I like Adeline and Madeleine. Not keen on the other one.

I prefer Maddie to Addie so I'd probably go with Madeleine.
