Middle name for Lucas

Had hoped to go with a family name from my OHs side. Choices were Keith or Kenneth but he’s vetoed both since he doesn’t particularly like them.

Our other son and daughter both have grandparent names as middle names - as do we - so I’d like to give him a meaningful middle name of some kind. Parent and sibling names are out though.

Other options are Jay, Jon or Nate (shortened versions of OHs name) with Nate being his favourite but I’m not sure it rolls off the tongue. We would rarely say it out loud though, I suppose 🤔

I quite like Blake, which means bright (it was my choice for a first name), or a name meaning sun, gift or blessing would be lovely since this is a long awaited baby!

Opinions on current choices would be great though. Thanks

If your DH is Nathan, then Nathaniel would be a nice nod to it.

I love Lucas Nathaniel but he’s less keen. Could be convinced I think! I also like Asher. Michael is my other boy’s middle name. I wonder if Jude could be a contender too?

Lucas Nathaniel makes me think of One Tree Hill.

What’s wrong with Lucas Nathaniel? Or Lucas Jonathan (if that’s what the full names are). It sounds better than Nate or Jon.

@Luredbyapomegranate OH isn’t too keen on either of them and really dislikes Jonathan, which is his full name. I like Nathaniel myself, and it has a similar meaning to Jonathan so hoping he’ll come round as otherwise middle name feels a bit pointless. I know everyone feels differently and might choose any name they like but for me it’s always been a family name.

Look at your family tree further as you might see a meaningful surname that would suit as a second name.

Not a massive fan of jay we a middle name. Where I live it's used by the chavy families in the same way that May is used.

Don’t use a family name unless you absolutely love it.
If they don’t like their first name when they are older, they can use their middle name, so make it a nice one!

With Lucas, I would use a single syllable or a 3 or 4 syllable.

Jay doesn’t sit right with me and doesn’t sound nearly as lovely as sibling names. Think I’m leaning towards three syllable as those names do seem to roll off the tongue better.

OH vetoed Nathaniel though…he’s a right pain in the ass. No suggestions but has an opinion on everything I offer up!

Lucas Jon is great. Will have dhs name which will be special when the others have a GPS name.

Would you have your other son’s first name as his middle name? Might be a nice wee nod to the new big bro! Could also reuse the same middle name again.

I think Jay or Nate to honour Jonathan is a bit of a reach. Jon is the only one that really works. Lucas Jonathan is lovely too.
