Madeline - prefer Madeleine. It's nice but will be Maddie or Mads, so a No
Hazel - nice
Frida - ok
Nell/Nelly - Nell is nice. Not keen on Nelly. Nellie seems slightly better than Nelly but there are so many Ellies
Fern - like it but not keen on Ferne and Fearne
Demelza - ok as a name of a village in Cornwall. No
Winnie - I quite like Winifred - could be Winnie or Frida
Nancy - like

FenghuangHoyan · 16/02/2023 17:02

I like Hazel and Madeline.

Frida sounds like a name for a Scandinavian child. Nell sounds old fashioned and a bit "milk maid". Fern reminds me of Fern Britan and forests. Demelza sounds like a witch's name. Winnie reminds me of Winnie the Pooh and Winnie Mandela and old Aunts. Nancy sounds like a bit very bright Americans name, but then I've watched Groundhog Day lots of times and it reminds me of Nancy Taylor.

That's me, I'm sure others love the names and my view is biased by the life I've led.

Top favs are Nell ( not Nelly ) Fern and Winnie.

DrHousecuredme · 16/02/2023 17:15

Madeline: love it, can't go wrong.
Hazel: lovely name.
Frida: not to my taste but an ok name.
Nell/Nelly: makes me think of Nelly the elephant so it's a no from me.
Fern: pretty mature name. I like but don't love it.
Demelza: dislike it, it always feels made up to me somehow.
Winnie: Winnie the Pooh or Winnie the witch so it'd be a no from me.
Nancy: nothing wrong with the name but I dislike it.

Riverlee · 16/02/2023 17:17

Madeline - nice, but with above spellings
Hazel - nice
Frida - Sounds German, or Soundvif Music
Nell/Nelly - dislike, nickname for Agnes (Zoe Ball has a Nelly)

Fern - nice
Demelza - lovely, unusual
Winnie - dislike, nn for Winifred
Nancy - dislike , Nancy boy was an old slang word for being gay or effeminate

midsomermurderess · 16/02/2023 17:20

Demelza is a children’s hospice charity so I’d avoid that one!

Madeline/ Madeleine is a lovely name

Amadeaa · 16/02/2023 17:26

Demelza - my first association was dementia so that’s a no from me

Hazel, Frida, Nell and Nancy 👌🏼

The others aren't to my taste.

DipperandMabel · 16/02/2023 17:44

Any except Demelza - mak s me think of demented or dementia

Hadtocomment · 16/02/2023 17:56

Madeline - I like and I like Maddie
Hazel - like. Nice nature name and unusual sound and unfrilly. Makes me think of the tree.
Frida - Really like Frida. Arty vibes.
Nell/Nelly - I really like both of these. Along with Nora.
Fern - not so keen on Fern and I don't know why really as nice nature name.
Demelza - What would this be shortened to?
Winnie - I don't like Winnie as much as I feel I should. Makes me think of horses' whinnying or the word Whiny.
Nancy - not keen.

On the whole I really like your list.

Roterosen · 16/02/2023 18:01

Demelza - What would this be shortened to?

Demi?

cptartapp · 16/02/2023 18:50

BridieConvert · 16/02/2023 19:37
