Felix or Raphael?

That’s it really. 1st baby.
Middle name will be William.
Surname is Italian sounding.. think DaVinci

I prefer felix but with an Italian surname I think Raphael would sound better

What are the nicknames/shortened versions, OP?

I love Rafa but I don't know how to shorten Felix at all.

It matters because every time friend's have chosen DC names without an obvious nickname, and said "we would use the long version so this doesn't matter", there's been a nickname bestowed by cousins/siblings/peers. EVERY TIME. Some aren't nice choices, but have stuck!

So this is worth considering IMHO.

I think Raphael we would probably get shorten to ‘Raffie’ as a baby and ‘Raf’ when he was older / teenager.
With Felix, I’m not so sure it needs shortening, but perhaps ‘Fe’

Felix. Raphael and an italian surname is too italian, and I don't like Raph/Raff/Raffie etc

Raphael. Rafe is a cute nn. Felix means “final” or last or similar so not for first baby.

I like felix. I always thought it meant happy.

I also like Raphael but if you have an Italian surname would prefer the Italian version Raffaele

Felix from the Latin means ‘Happy or Lucky’
Raphael is of Hebrew origin meaning ‘God has healed’

Dont mind about the cat or turtle connection at all ☺️

Ah ok, I saw it on a list of boys names meaning final or last as we’re looking for a name for our son.

Raphael is my fav name ever but we're Scottish so couldn't get away with it. I lived in Spain and met a few - though different spelling. Most were called Rafa as a short form.

100% Raphael. Absolutely love it. Great nickname options too - Rafa/Raffy. I don't mind Felix. Quite like it, but not a patch on Raphael.
