I agree that é isn’t exactly ‘ay’ but, to an English speaker, it’s pretty close.

It's ok. Don't like or hate it.

Don't use it unless you are comfortable with there being about 3 others with the same name in her class though as it's shot up in popularity in the last couple of years.

I've never heard this pronunciation and I've heard that name in more than one country

What would it be then? Ez-mee?

Personally I've never liked how it sounds but clearly lots do as it's very popular (which I don't think is an issue at all, both my DCs have popular but classic names).
It reminds me a bit of Otis in terms of popularity but actually just not sounding that appealing when you say it out loud.
