I love it!

GrazingSheep · 04/02/2023 23:18

Would you want to be called Briar?

ohblahdeeohblahdahlifegoeson · 04/02/2023 23:18

How would you pronounce it?
I like how it looks

Mandasporian · 04/02/2023 23:19

My parents often called me a briar. It was not a compliment.

CC4712 · 04/02/2023 23:20

I'm not familiar with the name and never actually heard it as a name. I think of prickly, thorny plants! Sorry, but for me, I think of a nasty, snaggy plant, not a lovely name. If you love it though- go for it- its just my thoughts.

Maeven1302 · 04/02/2023 23:20

Bry-er for pronunciation

It’s ok, how about Bryony or Brianna?

Anoisagusaris · 04/02/2023 23:21

‘She’s like a briar’ is a way of saying someone is in a bad mood/is crabby/narky here (Ireland).

Weekendwarriorwoman · 04/02/2023 23:22

I’ve heard the name before and thought it was ridiculous. I don’t like it at all - sorry. I would laugh like I do when I hear mums calling their kids with ridiculous names

Missingthesea · 04/02/2023 23:22

I like it.

HeavenIsAHalfpipe · 04/02/2023 23:23

Not keen sorry @Maeven1302

Anoisagusaris · 04/02/2023 23:23

Although isn’t Briar Rose another name for Sleeping Beauty or one of the other princesses?

JizzlordTheCat · 04/02/2023 23:24

Do you know what a briar is?

Winter2019 · 04/02/2023 23:24

Not nice

ColaBottlesYum · 04/02/2023 23:25

I don't think you want to hear my opinion.

Yes, my first thought too.

It's awful.

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 04/02/2023 23:32

My first thought was Briar Rose aka sleeping beauty.

purpleme12 · 04/02/2023 23:33

If it's Briar Rose (said together)
Or Bryony or Brianna then yes.
But no, not Briar

My Dad used to call me this when I was a moody teenager!😂

PinkSyCo · 04/02/2023 23:34

I prefer Brian.

WoolyMammoth55 · 04/02/2023 23:36

I'd 100% assume it was a nickname for someone whose birth certificate says Briony.

I don't love Briony myself but if you do then that'd be fine.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 04/02/2023 23:36

Should love it, as it's kind of cool looking and a fun uncommon nature name - but realistically I'm not sure it's a very nice sound - quite harsh actually (probably why the character was "Briar Rose", as the Rose softens/prettifies it). Blythe or Briony/Bryony have a similar vibe but nicer sounds imo?

Yeah but I think it’s one of those insults that you can half take as a compliment, like she’s a hard hearted Hannah. Nothing wrong with having a few sharp edges. Most woman could do with a few more.

I quite like it

JizzlordTheCat · 04/02/2023 23:37

Maeven1302 · 04/02/2023 23:27

Yes

That’s a briar rose. So called because it grows amongst briars.

Like in this photo.
