Just wondering what your initial thoughts are on the below names. What do you think of when you hear them?

We're struggling so much with a name. These are all contenders, but we have a specific reason not to use each of them 🙈

Avie
Ava
Arla
Orla

Also open to other suggestions, although we've looked at that many names I can almost guarantee we've thought of it and wrote it off 😂

I like Ava best it’s the most ‘normal’ sounding.

BesidetheseasideXxx · 02/02/2023 21:11

I like Ava and Orla. Associate Orla with Irish heritage.

What about Eve or Aria?

This is our exact reason not to use it. I'm not a fan of very popular names. I work with children so picking is very hard 😂

Arla is a milk company, Orla makes me think of awful retro patterns. Avie sounds like a made up name to me, and I think if someone introduced themselves as such I’d have to say pardon to make sure I’d got it right which be be tiresome for her after a while. Although isn’t AV a tv connection?
I like Ava.

Star81 · 02/02/2023 21:14

Alvia ?

Whiskeypowers · 02/02/2023 21:14

I know Ava is popular but it’s a lovely name.
that would be my first choice

BridieConvert · 02/02/2023 21:15

Avie - would forever be called Evie
Ava - lovely but popular
Arla - makes me think of milk 😂
Orla - lovely ☺️

evemillbank · 02/02/2023 21:17

Ava. It's a beautiful classic name

PurpleReindeer2 · 02/02/2023 21:17

Similar- what about-
Ava
Ada
Ida
Aria
Ella
Etta
Noa
Mia
Mya
Mila
Luna
Rosa
Tia
Zara
Lola

Fleur405 · 02/02/2023 21:17

Arla does make me think of milk. And yoghurts.
Avie - I did have to pause for a second to think how to pronounce it. It just looks strange. I like Ava.

peasandquiets · 02/02/2023 21:18

Avie - dislike, sounds somehow weird (and too cutsie)
Ava - lovely but prefer Eva
Arla - surely everyone will mishear as Orla
Orla - ok

How about Aleah?

AndyWarholsPiehole · 02/02/2023 21:20

I'm not a fan of any of those.

How about Althea or Althia?

MissBPotter · 02/02/2023 21:21

Avie is awful, sounds like the Scottish ski place! Arla is a milk brand. I like Orla and Ava best.
possibly prefer Eve to all of these, or Eva…. Also like Ada. Although I feel there is the possibility to confuse Ada’s and Ava’s in future!

Luredbyapomegranate · 02/02/2023 21:30

Avie - just sounds like a pet name for Ava, don’t use it as a full name
Ava - popular but classic
Arla - a huge diary company. Don’t be daft
Orla - fine

If you want something more unusual than Ava and Orla there is no need to name your daughter after yogurt

Aster
Astra
Ida
Anya
Alannah
Avery
Aeryn
Oona
Olwen
Elva
Irie
Ines

KirstenBlest · 02/02/2023 21:32

Avie - sounds like a loyalty card scheme or a fried food
Ava - done to the point of being meh, and I never liked it anyway
Arla - as in the milk?
Orla - meh in an english accent

Disneyforaweek · 02/02/2023 21:33

I quite like Avie! What about Alva or Adie? Or Ailsa

AnotherNameChangeYes · 02/02/2023 21:40

I'm not a fan of very popular names.

Really?? As Ava is about the most popular name you can get, they’re everywhere!

Orla is also common. I work with kids and hear them all the time and have friends with kids who have these names.

Ava/Ivy/Isla/Evie/Amelia/Millie are all names I hear in my kid’s playground all the time.

They're my husbands choices 😬 I have so many more names I love but these are the only ones we both sort of like 🙈

Ayla?

Snoopystick · 02/02/2023 21:50

I’m too old to have anymore, but just to add to the pot - I love Ingrid and Silvie

Tangerinie · 02/02/2023 21:52

Avie and Arla aren't to my taste. Ava is nice but a bit overused (I know a few and some with Ava as part of a hyphenated name "lily-ava" etc).

So I'd vote Orla. I like it the best anyway

Daffodil63 · 02/02/2023 23:06

I might be wrong but Im thinking those names are all quite popular atm if you want something different. At my daughters uni Ottilie was popular which I had not heard before. I like the name Aubrey from the film Pitch Perfect and a friend recently named her baby girl Wren which I thought was really lovely 🥰 it depends what sounds well with your surname of course
Good luck!

rach2713 · 02/02/2023 23:12

I have an Ava and there is a fair few in her school

Alayah
Erin
Rose
Mae
Leigh
Olivia
Summer

Ikeameatballs · 02/02/2023 23:14

Orla

Don’t like any of the others.

Vexxa · 02/02/2023 23:17

I was also going to suggest Ayla.
