Just wondering what your initial thoughts are on the below names. What do you think of when you hear them?

We're struggling so much with a name. These are all contenders, but we have a specific reason not to use each of them 🙈

Avie
Ava
Arla
Orla

Also open to other suggestions, although we've looked at that many names I can almost guarantee we've thought of it and wrote it off 😂

Ailsa

missunderstood2023 · 02/02/2023 23:25

I really like the name Ava

Rahrahrahraah · 02/02/2023 23:26

(of your list I like Orla best)

CountryLifeIsTwigsAndShit · 02/02/2023 23:48

Avie - doesn’t sound like a real name to me. I haven’t heard of it.

Ava - I like it

Arla - sounds like a yoghurt to me.

Orla - the best one from your list.

An Irish name Aoife sounds like EEfa. It means beautiful.
There are normal sounding names that are not over used right now like ..
Alanna - means precious
Amy - beloved
Alice - noble
Gabriella
Faye
Sally
Fiona
Lisa

I don’t know why but after reading your list ‘Essie’ popped into head. I didn’t even know it was a name, but a quick google tells me it is indeed a name-a French one meaning star fyi.

plumduck · 03/02/2023 06:17

Avie - no I much prefer Evie
Ava - ok
Arla - milk
Orla - no

Do you have one of those apps where you both swipe names and it tells you which you've matched on? They are quite handy and mean you don't have to spend ages discussing each name.

Sleepless1096 · 03/02/2023 06:23

I don't really like any of them - nothing wrong with them but they're all a bit meh. Based on your choices, I'd suggest...

Nessa/Nessie
Avery
Elowyn
Nella
Lyra
Aria
Ada

Sofiatheworst · 03/02/2023 07:14

Ayla was going to be my suggestion too

rainbowstardrops · 03/02/2023 09:07

Alayah
Aria
Eden
Edie
Ottilie

Mumofgirls2017 · 03/02/2023 09:17

Haus1234 · 03/02/2023 09:26

Ava and Orla are both very nice, Avie is ok but Arla isn’t good (and will make people think of dairy products as everyone has said!).

Some similar sounds - Alba, Avery, Astrid, Alix?

minnor · 03/02/2023 22:57

I actually like Avie.

Other suggestions:
Ayla
Cleo
Elvie
Izzy
Leia
Lola
Maxi
Myla
Raya
Zara

Enko · 03/02/2023 23:38

I wouldn't pick any of them

Alfia?
Anthea?
Athena?

Theemptychair23 · 04/02/2023 08:35

Avia? or Avaya?

MalagaNights · 04/02/2023 08:51

Oh, I'm so tired of the Lyla/ Lyra/ Mia/Maya/ Isla/ Eva/Ava/ Orla/ Lilah/ Mila type names.

They're all so samey, I have to mentally pause to remind myself of the slight adjustment of the sound for this child.

It's as if we started having classes full of girls called: Julie/ Lulie/ Nulie/ Lielie/ Jujie/ Jeje/ Neelie/ Sulee

Use some different sounds!!
Give your child a name that is identifiable by more than one syllable to all the other girls in the class.

Teeshirt · 04/02/2023 08:54

They are all very forgettable and virtually the same as each other. Ava and Orla are nice.

mumoffourminimes · 04/02/2023 08:56

None of them - sorry!
Orla is the best of the original 4 options

What about Anwen?

SallyWD · 04/02/2023 08:58

I love Ava and Orla.

ShillyShallySherbet · 04/02/2023 09:01

Avie - makes me think of AV on a tv and doesn’t seem like a real name.
Ava - ok
Arla - pretty but seems like Carla but you’ve missed out the C (and makes me think of milk)
Orla - love

How about Amy? One of my all time favourites and would have used myself but couldn’t.

rach971 · 16/02/2023 19:02

Arla just makes me think of Arla Cravendale milk 😫😂

Zuve · 16/02/2023 19:05

I used to work with a syvia and she was lovely

ourflagmeansdeath · 16/02/2023 19:14

How about Aila? Pronounced Ay-luh. And perhaps Isla if we're going in that direction too. I love Orla and Ava from your list.

Genie321 · 16/02/2023 19:18

Riva/Rheeva?

I love Ava.

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 16/02/2023 20:41

Ailsa? Aria/Arya? Similar sounds.

The only one I don't like from your list is Avie - I think it reminds me of Aviva...
