Taylor as a girls name?

Jenny7866 · 13/01/2023 11:09

We are expecting a new member of the family very soon and have hence been going over possible baby names. Preferably we would like a strong gender neutral name, and Taylor really appeals to us, however I am concerned that there are too many associations with Taylor Swift... Like if you just search up 'Taylor' on google, she's the first thing that pop ups for a long while. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Like maybe Skylar, Lindsay, Morgan, Meryl, Renee, Peyton, Emerson?

I'm not a fan, it's quite American sounding. Something like Alex(andra) would work?

Robin/Robyn
Rowan

I love the name Taylor and always have, for a boy or girl. Wish my ex dh would have let us use it but he wasn't as keen and we went with Regan which of course really suits ds now after 19 years of the name!

What about spelling it Tayla instead?

ILoveShula · 13/01/2023 18:09

Pip, short for Philippa
Max, short for Maxine/Maxmiliana
Georg(i)e, short for Georgina
Peta/Petra
Charlie, short for Charlotte
Toni, short for Antonia

Taylor /Tailor means 'person who sews clothes for a living'. That's not an old and long-forgotten meaning; it's still with us today.

Comfortably Bryce means 'speckled' or 'blemished'. In a language that's still spoken. I wonder, why would anyone do that to their daughter?

ComfortablyDazed · 13/01/2023 18:44

Probably the same reason they would do it to their son (it’s an established boys’ name) - they don’t know or they don’t care.

The meaning of Claudia wouldn’t put me off using it.

Mydogatemypurse · 13/01/2023 18:49

I wasnt sure, then i worked with a Taylor who was a beautiful, positive spirited person and now thats what I think off.
For similar reasons I think of Sue's as selfish psychos (actually 3 people have caused this sweeping generalisation ha) and Lisa's as having smelly hair.. this did start in infant school tho ha ha.
